Hi everyone. I just have a question in regards to how often you guys give your ferts pumpkin? I have gone back through a bunch of older threads with the search function, and i've basically pulled up; - Some people do it weekly. - Some people do small amounts every single day. - Some people only do every second day. I was previously using vaseline weekly for my guys, but I stopped that and switched to pumpkin with Heather's advice. (Thanks again! ) The weekly routine worked well for me, and I never experienced any issue with it or with them. I am basically just wondering if I should do small doses every day? like a half tsp? Or should I stick to once weekly and increase the frequency during shedding season? Also, for preparation purposes and to prevent it from spoiling, I am going to freeze it in ice cube trays and then pop the cubes out once frozen and store in a ziploc freezer bag. Is this okay to do with Pumpkin? (Sorry, I have no experience with pumpkin aside from eating delicious pumpkin pie LOL!) Thanks in advance for everyone's thoughts and feedback!

I try to do it daily. In reality, I probably feed it 4-5x a week. I find that it helps keep my kids consistent and regular.
You can definitely freeze the pumpkin in ice cube trays. When thawing them out, try microwaving them and adding a bit of water. It helps bring back the consistency to normal.

I use a approx a tsp on a daily basis in their soupy but this is to provide for the fur they don't get if they've not had prey. I will give a tbsp once a week if I feel they're shedding out a lot. I also brush them daily and this also keeps the shedding down. ciao

Thanks ladies. I'll start doing daily from now on. I inspect their poops regularily just to make sure everyone is fine, and their poops are great. But, I would reather err on the side of caution! Do you all freeze the pumpkin or is safe to just keep it refridgerated? I'm just not sure how quickly it spoils?

During shedding seasons I can open a can and keep it sealed in a container in the fridge for maybe 2-3 weeks, much longer than this and it gets moldy. Freezing it is fine too.

Awesome! Thanks so much Yurei. I think I might try that at first and just keep it refridgerated just to see how quickly I run through one can with 4 wee ones feeding it on a daily basis.

I normally freeze half and refrigerate the other half.

You know when pumpkin is bad because it gets moldy. Depending on the container size, I may or may not freeze. Granted- we have 9 ferrets. I use 1/2 tsp per ferret daily.

Alright, so did the first feeding of pumpkin last night and it went over well. Pickle ate it right away, but he is my god-send Ferret because he will eat ANYTHING you offer him by hand without hesitation and come back for more. This has been really helpful because the others see him eat something, so they think it's all good and are more willing to try it. Bahahaha!
Ojo is my most difficult boy.. you can literally tell when something disgusts him because he curls his upper lip and just makes this hilarious face. It's actually really adorable. He was VERY reluctant to try it, sniffed it and turned his head and made the face. I mixed a bit of his portion with some Ferretone and managed to get him to take a lick. He ended up eating a half tsp like that, so tonight when I give them more i'll offer it without the Ferretone. I'm sure he'll eat it now as I really didn't put much in it.
Penwyn took a lick and ran away, then came back for some more and ate the rest lol.
Mittens wasn't very interested, he nose nudged it a few times then decided to go play with a bag instead. I added a bit of Ferretone to his portion as well and offered it to him again and he gobbled it right up.
They're just like little kids I swear. Kick and scream because they don't want to try something and put up the biggest fight ever, only to finally give in a love it lol!

Oh, aren't they....they're just brats. I don't know how often I've likened the little sods to 2 and 3 yr old skin kids ciao

Some ferrets only like pumpkin warmed up and/or thinned down with a little water or oil, could try if that way. I mostly only give pumpkin now for shedding season and when someone's sick with the runs or acting off, mine get 5% veggie matter in their commercial grind, so I figure they don't need it all the time now.

Thanks Yurei. I heated it up at first and offered it just as stand-alone pumpkin with nothing added. Then I added a bit of water to it and made it soupy, then tried it completely cold with some ferretone in it. I'm sure each of them will like it their own special way. ;D
