yup, another question! I just didnt want to mix the 2 together. So Molson is 5.5 y/o and the vets at my work looked at his teeth and said that it probably wouldnt hurt to have his teeth descaled (I dont know if that's the proper term, I had to use google translate lol, but it's pretty much like when we go to the dentist for a routine cleaning)
I was wondering if anyone's ever done this? I'm kind of nervous because for the procedure the animal has ot be under anasthesia but I also dont want to wait until it's to the point where some of his teeth need to be removed!

Napoleon had his teeth cleaned and an extraction. He was not put under because he had a heart condition. I don't like to use aneasthetic but this was the vet's call, she said there was no way she would put him under. He had a local for the extraction. He was such a good wee boy. ciao

I would also like to hear other's experiences with this. I was going to make a thread about this exact topic but I don't mind piggy-backing - thanks molson . As it turns out my boy's teeth have apparently gotten pretty bad since their last vet check-up. I feel like a horrible Momma So, on our last trip I asked about their teeth and having them cleaned and he said it looked like they will probably need a cleaning in the next 6 months or so. This makes me a little nervous but so far all of my boys have had sedation before for different reasons and pulled thru, but I still dont like to take any chances. However, as Heather said, it is up to the vet and my vet requires sedation.

i'm pretty lucky to work at a vet hospital so i pay half price for those kind of things and i can be there when they do it so that makes me feel better lol. the vet that takes care of exotics has never done this on a ferret so she's excited but so far no technician feels comfortable assisting her so i'll wait and see. i also plan on having his blood and stool tested to make sure he's all nice and good to go. ive NEVER brought him to the vet before, in his 5.5 years of life, he's never been sick or shown any signs of illness so I just havent felt the need to, but now that I work at a vet and can get things for pretty cheap I figure out might as well make sure everything is ok
