My room mate's ferret, Spriggins, isnt doing so well. He was fine earlier today but maybe 20 minutes ago he started walking around all wobbly. He cant seem to stand up plus he wet himself. He's about 7-8 years old. We cant really get him to a vet because we cant afford gas money or anything and it's almost midnight here, anyway. Is there any way we can help him?

Can you call someone to bring you to an emergency vet? Does your roommate have a normal vet that Spriggins sees? He needs to see a vet. Could it be insulinoma? I'm not too familiar with it, hopefully someone else will chime in. In the future, set aside funding for emergencies like this.

Your ferret needs to be seen ASAP. This is not something to put off. Your little one is very sick. If you cannot afford to care for the wee one call your local shelter. There are a number of diseases that can exhibit these type of symptoms and none of them are pleasant if some type of medical intervention is not taken. If it's insulinoma a simple BG will give you the answer and a pred dosage will be worked out. There is nothing we here can advice other than this. I'm sorry that your little one has become this ill but these wee ones are notorious for going from full bore to death in a matter of hours. Considering the symptoms that you've described, I don't think time is something your little one has a lot of if something isn't done quickly ciao

Thank you. I believe my room mate is on the phone with someone about it right now. I only moved in here a couple of years ago and I'm new to the whole ferret thing. I'm really hoping we can find a ride to a vet soon. Until then he will at least get a lot of love.

I second the others on here - the little one needs a vet asap. There are really too many bad possibilities here to start guessing.
Please keep us updated! Good luck to you and the little one.

We have been messaging people and posting on FB for help or advice. Our car is kind of messed up and at the moment we have no gas or brake fluid...plus when we called the emergency vet they informed us that we would need to pay around $100-$150 on the spot to help the little guy. We are continuing to search for help from a friend or something. He seemed just fine all day up until the wobbly-ness. Currently he's wrapped up all cozy in my room mate's lap. Really crossing my fingers and hoping we find help. He's still breathing and twitchy but he really isnt doing good. I wish things werent so hard for us financially, at the moment. We feel terrible for not being able to do more sooner. We dont even have the money to get gas and drive to the vet, let alone pay them tonight.

In the mean time do you have any corn syrup? Or honey? Or some kind of sugary sticky substance?
Rub some on his gums. If he had insulinoma (a disease where they cannot regulate their blood sugar) he may have low blood sugar.
The sugar will help bring his blood glucose up but he also needs protein following the sugar to stabilize. So if you have any meat baby food, duck soup, or even raw meat of any kind. You can blend the meat into a soup and cover it in ferretone or treats or something he likes. Then rub some on his gums and see if you can get him to eat.
He will still need a vet, but this could buy you some more time until you can arrange the ride.

We managed to make some of that duck soup stuff and he ate it really well. We plan on giving him some more until we can get him to a vet. I have been making deals with people to sell some of my things in order to earn money for him. By the end of the night we got him walking normally again, but we are aware that he is going to need constant attention until a vet can see him. It is now a little past 6 in the morning and we are just getting to sleep after that not-so-happy adventure.
Thank you for the help and I shall keep everyone posted on his health and whatnot.

Sounds awfully like insulinoma. needs a vet ASAP. Take out a Care Credit card if you have to.
