Hello!
I have an older ferret (6yr old) who is being treated for insulinoma.
Lately whenever I let him out he does about 2 min of searching for a new place to nap. I know that his energy levels will be lower now that hes older and because of his cancer, but I'm looking for help in keeping him entertained.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks

My older guy is not ill but he does have a slower method than the rest.....he loves cardboard boxes and tubes and anything to go inside of but to keep him going around I make sure there are new things or things he has not seen in awhile with different scents to keep him interested, like a bit of oil treat in one box and a piece of his favorite ground gizzard or other meat in another. I pet and interact with him a lot and rub his belly and neck. If yours needs to sleep more because of his illness, let him do so though and make sure he is comfortable (which I am sure you already do) Hope some of this is some help

The older guys enjoy interaction with people most of all. My guys love to be held and shown "stinky things". They love massage and treats too. I encourage my old guys to explore as much as possible by providing different "nests" for them to try out in the room until they find one to snooze in. The "nests may be stinky dirty clothes or crinkly plastic shopping bags (under supervision, of course) The I get them out of the nest and "cuddle enrichment" begins. We cuddle, and they get held as I bring them around the house showing them new things to sniff. They get treats and lots of kisses. It's very hard to watch them get older...my kids are coming up on 8 - I miss those wild and crazy younger years, but they become soooo affectionate when they are older. They are so lovable and appreciative these days. The bottom line is that aferret is ALWAYS a wonderful pet! -jennifer

Sarah- what are his bg levels? Reason I'm asking is that if he's not yet stabilized he's going to be a lot more tired.
