I really want to get going with this whole prey diet for my kids. Until I get good breeding colonies up and going, I was thinking of purchasing from Rodent Pro. The problem is, I really don't know how much my three should eat every day. They need to be fed twice a day, so that is two meals a day. How much can they put away in one sitting and if I were to give them something like a medium/large rat, would they share it? Right now my little ones are on a grain-free kibble. While it is easy for me to simply fill up the bowl and leave them to it, the idea of getting them back to a natural, healthy diet is sounding awesome to me. I miss giving my guys what they truly need.
How much they should eat depends on their weight right? Or is that only for raw feeding? I could get updated weights on everyone today if that would be helpful. I have a scale. Or do you just give each ferret a prey animal and if they still want more when their done, you give them more?
I plan on feeding rats, mice, gerbils (if I can get a good breeding pair going), guinea pigs, rabbits, and possibly quail.
Now, looking at prices on Rodent Pro, I need to figure out how much my guys would eat in a month. I have 3 to feed.

Koda can eat about 2 adult mice per meal. Sometimes he will only eat part of one, but others he will eat up to 3. They get 2 "meals" per day, but I leave the food in there all day/night. Rats are a bit more filling. I'd say 1-2 small rats per meal (2 if they are really hungry) per ferret, and one med-large rat should last almost the whole day. It really depends on your ferrets though, Kenai eats like a pig and Koda eats like a bird unless it is whole prey. I always give enough so that there are leftovers to snack on during the day. Really the best thing to do is see for yourself. RodentPro ships in Boxes, and it is most cost effective to fully fill your box. Order a box with some variety of prey and prey sizes, and see how it goes. Then you will have a better idea of what to order next time.

I have four ferrets, I usually give them 1 large guinea or 2 medium in a day, I give the largest quail from rodent pro and they can finish that in under a day, mice they love, they get 20-25 gram usually and will eat up to 15 a day! Rats I give larges and it lasts maybe a half day. And yes they will share large items, you want a variety of sizes, but mostly older ones. You have to figure out what they like, mine will gorge on some meals and pick at others until they are really hungry, mice and quail are their favorite.

So when you feed these large prey items do you only feed them once for tha day? Do you just leave it in for the whole day or portion it out to split into two meals?

I leave them in for the whole day. If it's large enough, they can be left in for up to two days, depending on how much it is, and what.

I just put them out for the morning and let them eat until they are done!
