I'd like to know how many others have fed whole newborn rabbits to ferrets. I have a pair of rabbits that had babies last Saturday, but the mother neglected them. That left me with an idea. I gave the babies one at a time to my ferrets Frisky and Jasper (they're father and son, btw) who gobbled them up in minutes. Can newborn rabbits be refrigerated? If so, how long before they go bad?

Any meat can be refrigerated, you can put them in the freezer as well to use when you need them. I buy rabbit pinkies off a couple breeders and my ferrets love them.

Keep in mind that Baby feeder animals of any type are not as nutritionally complete as adult animals.

That is very true. They do make an awesome treat though. My guys often enjoyed this when I had a good supplier (seems rabbits aren't the best parents ). It became part of the meal...rather like dessert though the tendency was to eat these treats first and then go to the meal of rabbit a bit later ;D. ciao

Wait, did you feed the ferrets the live kits? Did the ferrets hunt them? I don't know how "vital" young rabbits are, but they are large enough that if they are not lively enough to licit a prey response in the ferrets, that will Not be a quick death...

I never thought of it that way....baby rabbits usually die within a few hours if that long if the mother rejects them. I just assumed they were already dead. Some ferrets will kill without initiating a huge prey response. It needs only to move in their mouths
