timmy's tonic has honey in it (sugar). i'd keep giving it though. after long term use, pred can cause liver damage, muscle wasting, pred belly. increased appetite. but, i have had a ferret on pred for well over a year. high doses too. it affects ferrets differently. never mind the side effects though. just keep doing what you are doing. sounds like she is feeling much better. what more can you ask for.

Omg, I just read through all this and it made me cry. I know how hard it is to see them so sick. I remember when Beatrice got really bad from the insulinoma, I would just hold her and cry bc she looked so precious and perfect. Oh ferrets, definitely the ULTIMATE heart breaker!!s I am SOOO happy she is doing well and has been able to get the extra attention and time from you. You are just given her such a great quality of life and making the time she does have left wonderful! I will keep you both in my prayers and I hope for the best. She really is a special little fuzz. Giver her a good hug and cuddle for me!

I was just wondering if you have found anything that works for you? I saw your post in my own research and had to join. My baby Houdini also has juvenile Lymphoma. she is on pred but when I started lowering the dose gradually as suggested she got worse. Started it again. It helped her for a month or so. She gained back her weight and was more active but has now started losing it again. If you have found anything that has helped you, I would be forever grateful if you could let me know. I'm so sorry. I know exactly what you are going through. It's heartbreaking.

sadly xeopse's ferret Lulabelle had to be put to sleep. she lost the fight with juvenile lymphoma. but, i say don't give up until the end. you have to try to help your baby get better give it a good fight. you can try many things. try reishi mushrooms, essiac, timmy's tonic. it appears that with juvenile lymphoma ferrets will seem to get better and then all of a sudden they take a nose dive for the worse. there is a new thread on here about reishi. here is a mixture of different medicinal mushrooms used for cats and dogs. please let us know what happens with your baby. i am praying for her and i hope that you can make her better. www.onlynaturalpet.com/products/M....d/203000.1.aspx

I am so sorry to hear your little one has JL. That is such a nasty, nasty disease. Try some of the things miamiferret has suggested. And let us know what's happening with her.

I'm sorry to hear about Lulabelle. Houdini was doing great on her prednisone for awhile, gained weight, became more active. Recently, she lost all the weight again. Her appetite seems to have decreased as well. She hates drinking out of her waterbowl, but loves drinking out of the shower. We turn it on a few times a day for her and bring her in there to remind her to drink. She still gets excited and begs for treats (she's become quite spoiled since she got sick). She's still a happy ferret. She sleeps a lot, and will sleep with you, on your lap, next to you, and even in the downstairs. She never would have done this previously. Especially downstairs since it's a new territory. (she has free reign of the upstairs.) looking back, she has always been a little different, calmer, less playing. I always just thought it was her personality, but she could have had a disease all along. It doesn't matter now though. Anyway, she is doing well for what she has. I'm just enjoying everyday I have with her. I know I can't change it or look for a miracle answer. I know that the minute she shows discomfort, or unhappiness, a lack of quality of life, I'll let her go. But for now, she's happy. The veterinarian tried to get me to have her have surgery, where they would cut her open, flush out her abdomen, wrap her up in gauze, and do this daily for weeks. I refused immediately.

I'm so glad you made that decision! Poor baby would have had no quality of life at all

A candle is lit for your wee one, may she continue to enjoy her life with you for as long as possible. Such little ones are special, and teach us to appreciate life and live day to day. Give the wee one a hug and a special kiss from me. Good luck...both of you ciao
