Always be careful using butter which is a natural laxative. You may get more than you bargained for and it's very messy ciao

If you are going for pure calories with some nutritional value, you may want to try Ferretvite. It isn't great for them (has a fair amount of sugar) but it has nutrients and is very high in calories. At this point, putting some weight on is the more important concern.
Another thought: I wonder if ferrets can get the munchies from, uh, that one herb. I don't do that sort of thing, but if you do, maybe you could make "special" ferret brownies or something? I have heard that it also helps with nausea.

Not meant to bash or anything MissKat, but I'd avoid the Ferretvite like the plague simply because of the sugars. There are many other things out there that will do the same job with less risk. As for the other? Definitely no.

$35 a bag It does NOT cost that much at my vet Pippin did not like it when I first bought it, and I mixed it in with really thin soupies and syringe fed him. I put about half carnivore care and half normal soup. He would not eat it on his own, I had to scruff and stuff, but he was so thin that it was necessary. It took time, but he got used to the taste. We're now at the stage where the mix is really thick and couldn't even be sucked up by a syringe, and I don't have to hand feed him, just supervise him in case he tries to run off without finishing. If it wasn't for that stuff he would be skin and bones. It is expensive (although I pay half the price they're asking you to pay) but it really was a lifesaver. I would say no to the ferretvite and NO to anything with THC in it. I have seen way too many stupid people get their pets messed up from it and the animal is never the same.

Sorry I haven't posted about for a while.., been pretty busy trying to get Lyla better, plus new teaching job starting in a few days, I have my hands full... But.... I bear only bad news I guess... After my last post, Lyla started having looser stools again, and I noticed that the more I forced her to eat, the more she struggled. Then I decided to finally open the Carnivore Care and try that out. She HATES it (of course... why did I ever even try to expect otherwise!?!) and I had to syringe feed with LOTS of difficulty. When I forced her to eat it, I noticed she started throwing up again. I dunno if this makes sense, but I feel that the more I force her to eat something, the more it stresses her out, the sicker she is... Her poops are pure liquid again (though not green), and she seems to not want to eat the freeze dried in water as I was doing before, neither the actual freeze dried. I THINK she may still eat a BIT on her own, but just enough to keep alive... Tonight, she even refused some freeze the freeze dried treats, she ate two pieces of NBones (I cut them in pieces of about 2 cms long), and I got her to lap up a bit of water from the bowl with floating freeze dried pieces in it, but not enough to say she actually ate something. So we decided that in the morning, I will head out to the nearest grocery store, and buy some of that "almost" lactose free Cat milk in the small purple box... Lyla use to LOVE that stuff... if I can get her to at LEAST eat that... and I will also get her a small bag of Origen kibble. I wanted to avoid the most possible, but I have literally tried everything else I can in my power and available time... It is scaring me, but I feel like we're loosing her to some unknown problem that I just can't pinpoint... How fast do some of the natural IBD remedies work? Is it too late for her? Knowing her she will fight me to not eat whatever I want to give her, to the point where she'll throw up, and I'll have gone nowhere but make her worse... I really feel like we're loosing her and I'm trying everything and nothing is working I haven't weighed her in almost two days, I am too scared to. Last time I weighed her she weighed at 610 after a large meal of Carnivore Care (which she threw all up an hour later... there was beige puke everywhere...)...

So after some more pleading, I got her to drink more of the water with floating powdered freeze dried pieces (though I highly doubt she got much of the freeze dried, I know she got a minute amount for sure...), and I got her to eat a piece of freeze dried liver, and 3 more NBone pieces... She doesn't want any other treats but the NBones now... so I guess even though not very nutritious, they make keep her alive just long enough for me to get the lactose free milk in the morning and some kibble for her... Poor Lyla If anyone looked at her right now, they'd say this pet is being severely maltreated and is severely underfed

If she's IBD, perhaps she needs some pred. It's been known to help a lot and it only takes about 24-48 hrs before you know it's going to work. I'm sorry, it's not much help. Sherry or Katt or even better Jennifer are the ones to really pick their brains about IBD. ciao

Anything she will eat, give it to her..
Have you looked at sugar free ensure? (if they even have that?)
I use ensure with sick rodents. It's super gentle on the tummy and very sweet so they LOVE it. It moves smoothly through the system and somewhat runny stools are normal for it as it is liquid, but it would be worth a try.
Or even a protein powder for people. That might come in a sugar free variety and the forbidden sweet taste should encourage her to eat it.
Double check the ingredients of everything to try and be sure it's safe.
Have you tried wet cat food? Or try some very dull, plain cooked chicken breast that's soaked in water and nice and mushy.
We are pulling for her. Keep trying.

Most of these have artificial sweeteners in them...which are toxic to ferrets. There was some discussion about using ensure on ferrets and its not good for them. Kitten replacer would be better. They have it in goat milk which is supposed to be easier to digest ciao

Not sure if you have tried the chicken baby food, I scanned through the posts but didn't see it. Maybe water it down and put in an oil she likes for calories. Ollie had an episode and I spoon fed him this.

You can also make your own baby food and it will be nutritionally balanced too. I've used it a number of times for my super sick fuzzkids ciao

You should look for meyenberg goats milk. It comes powdered, evaporated or fresh. They sell it at all major grocery stores. It is breeder and veterinarian recommended for convalescing animals. I would try making your own meat baby food to add in. meyenberg.com/index.php?page=aliasSent from my SCH-M828C using proboards

Hey there, sorry to hear she is so poorly here's what worked amazingly for one of mine when she wouldnt eat.... James Wellbeloved dry food, send it through a coffee grinder until its like powder, boil the kettle and mix it with the hot water until its a thick soup...or any other dry food she used to like? it safed her as she wouldnt eat anything else at the time, now the others have a taste for it too so I make a soup every morning! haha they love it, its worth a try? my currently sick one "Evil" is gaining weight on pureed chicken / duck/ liver/ hills- A/D I think you could combine any meat with the hills AD and she'd like it lol. Taste wise warmed baby food is worth a try, the chicken one is ok (in small doses) shuld also help with the runny poop ...
