Well I guess I'm glad I haven't fed any of the shipment I got at the beginning of the month. They'll stay in the freezer until I hear from RodentPro or find out if the virus is destroyed via freezing.

I'm so glad I get my mice and chicks from Big Cheese! I tried RodentPro shortly after I switched to a raw/whole prey diet and was not at all happy with what I got...they were dirty, loose in a plastic bag (BC vacuum freezes theirs), two thirds the size of the BC adults, and in poor condition so didn't look as they'd had good nutrition.
I complained and they sent me an additional 350 free of charge. Those weren't any better than the first 350. I used them, but never ordered from them again.

I wrote to them today:
"Good Morning,
I have recently learned that you recently have had an outbreak of Lymphocytic Choriomeningitis at your breeding facilities. I placed and order with you on June 28th which was shipped on July 9th. I am concerned as this shipment was from before the quarentine lift on July 11th. What measures, if any, do I need to take (the prey I ordered from you are for ferrets). If I need to dispose of certain animals from my order will I be compensated? If this virus is killed via freezing could you please send me the address of a website where this confirmed just to reassure me?
Looking forward to your response."
Hopefully I'll hear from them soon. Still really disappointed that there has been no official communication from the company or announcement on their website about this.

It was one of the other links to a site that had a report from one of the CDC inspectors (I think that's what he was). They had to kill their entire rat and mouse stock, as well as sterilize the buildings. Apparently from other comments apparently Rodent Pro sometimes outsources when their stocks are low. I have my fingers crossed that this was the case with my order. Still haven't heard anything from them. If I still have no response via e-mail tomorrow I'm going to call them on Friday. This is the response I got from them. Fortunately it looks like only 14 customers received contamined product and have all been contacted directly by the CDC. I still think Rodent Pro should have been more forthcoming about this incident (contacting all their customers directly instead of individual concerned customers having to contact them for information).

Well I'm glad my quail from there are in the clear but I'm going to use my local supplier from now on and my ferrets will just have to do without guinea pigs.

Guinea pigs can't carry this as far as I am aware. Also this sort of thing is apparently pretty common in the industry. It's not unusual for colonies to be destroyed because of some type of communicable disease spreading amongst the rodent population. The only reason this instance made the headlines is because some of the workers got sick from a specific disease that could be transmitted to humans. This is why the CDC stepped it. Keep in mind that Rodent Pro is a larger company that acts as a reseller supplied by multiple breeders. They specifically stated in the letter that they are no longer purchasing from this breeder. If you have been happy with their product up until now I don't see why this would change anything. I think their product and prices are decent, only their communication skills need improving.

Oh I am not stopping due to worry about it so much as cost, if I can get quail locally for cheaper, then all I'd need from RP is guinea pigs, I breed my own mice and my ferrets won't eat rats, it's too expensive to make an order of only GP.

That's true, the shipping costs are really only worth it if you put in a large order. Still cheaper than most Canadian breeders I've found however and I like their range of products.
