Unfortunately I had to say goodbye to Baby on Saturday. She started having horrible seizures that she was'nt coming out of most likely bc the Pred stopped working and diazoxide was doing nothing. Her skin really cleared up for about a week and then she started to get these really big boils on her feet and toes. She had a few good days where she had enough energy to go in her tunnel and run around but it didnt last long. She just couldnt fight this bad infection bc of Pred. Yes it maybe gave her a year symptom free but what it did to her in the end was so not worth it. I will never use Prednisone on a ferret again.

I am so very, very sorry this has happened But please understand- prednisolone definitely has it's place in treatment of a variety of illnesses. The vast majority of insulinoma cases will never have the problems your wee one suffered with. DIP baby girl

I'm so sorry that you lost her in the end..it was a battle hard fought but you did win some ground and she was able to live longer than if she would have if you had allowed the insulinoma to take her. We all know that eventually your little ones will loose the battle against that dreaded disease that we help them fight....we just have to be there. You were there for her and you helped her fight with the tools that you had available. I too, am using those same tools and taking those same risks. I know and understand the guilt. I watch my wee boy, watch his vitality and strength slip away. Someday maybe we will find something that works better than pred. That allows them to live without their bodies shutting down piece by piece so that the little ones are fighting just the disease and not the drugs we use to fight the disease. I will light a candle for your little one to guide her steps on to her next great adventure. She will never forget you or the kindness and love that you gave her. ciao
