So tonight Riley started not being able to control her bladder again and having blood in her urine. After about 30 minutes, she was able to hold it again and it was slowly turning back to yellow, but it was coagulated (gooey). She was drinking before, and I've seen her eat today. She had a deep, bright orange poop right before this started (though I think she was recovering from a respiratory infection earlier this week). She has been energetic, etc. I got a 50ml syringe full of blood to take to the vet, but they don't open until Monday. So... They tested for a radiogram last time and did blood work and a urinalysis, which all came up clean. This sounds like bladder stones, so what the heck is going on? And I feel this is an emergency because..she's peeing blood!

Get that wee one to a vet asap. If she's got bladder stones she could block and you're going to have a very sick fuzz. No matter how you look at it, this isn't normal. Bladder stones, very bad urinary infection...either way you're looking at a serious issue....there could also be other issues but I'm unclear how they manifest. ciao

Agreed with Heather, blood in the urine is not a good sign at all. I believe blood in the urine can also be a kidney issue, but I could be wrong. Either way get her to a vet ASAP. Even a non-ferret emergency vet should be able to perform a simple urinalysis and see stones on an Xray. But you may want to do some bloodwork too to check her Kidneys (if she tests clean again for a urinalysis and Xray - but those should be done again even though they came up clean last time)

See, she did this ONE time a month ago. And the next day the vet did a urinalysis, radigram to see stones, and did full blood work.
It all came back perfectly clean. Now, almost exactly one month later....it happens again, but this time there was more.
Taking her to the vet tomorrow and I have a sample of the bloody urine too, so hopefully they can figure out where it came from and what it's from. I'm wondering if they missed the bladder stones last time.

My understanding that this is possible in humans, so why not ferrets? ciao

www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15648797I don't know if you can access this journal article so I will sum it up for you... abdominal xray is NOT an accurate way to determine the presence of bladder stones. Every symptom is pointing to bladder stones. There are medications that can break them up, strongly encourage your vet to get Riley on them ASAP. Like Heather said, the next step is a blockage and Riley will go downhill FAST and it will be expensive surgery.

Thank you. Yeah, it sounded like bladder stones to me too, but the vet had said she DIDN'T have any. Not that they just didn't SEE any. I will see what she says tomorrow at the appointment and if she finds no cause then I'll ask to try to treat for bladder stones. I know this has got to be hurting my little girl
