1. Where did you first learn about natural diets for ferrets?
This forum
2. Please describe the type of diet you would like assistance in switching your ferret(s) to. Be sure to include if you are interested in feeding whole prey (live or frozen-thawed) and if you are wanting to FULLY switch to a natural diet or PARTIALLY. If you are unsure what kind of diet you want to put your ferrets on, please express that and we can help you find the best type of natural diet for your ferret.
I'd like to switch them to a raw and whole diet and am fine feeding frozen-thawed prey.
3. Why are you interested in switching your ferrets to a natural diet?
I think it's better for them.
4. Do you understand that switching your ferret to a natural diet can be a lengthy, arduous process? Its not an overnight switch. It can be a commitment of several weeks or even months. Your HF Mentor will be more then happy to assist you in switchng your ferret(s) to a natural diet, but you need to be equally as commited. If you aren't willing to tough out a potentially lengthy switching process, or if you have major life changes approaching (baby on the way, moving, starting school, getting married/divorced, etc) then it might be a better idea to wait on switching your ferret's diet until you have more time. Are you willing to make the commitment?
Yes
5. How many ferrets do you currently have? What are their names? Ages? Genders? Do they have any health problems? Are they overweight? Underweight? How long have you had each ferret for?
I currently have 1 but I'm picking up 2 this Thursday, they're the 2 I want to switch over, the first one is already on a raw diet.
Pocket (the one I have right now) is a male, we think he's 3+ years old, he has Adrenal Disease, he's believed to have hearing problems, he's a little on the small side, and I've had him since June.
Jessi is a female, 4 years old, no known health problems, good weight, and I'll be picking her up Thursday.
Anni is a female, 6 years old, she is thought to have Insulinoma, when I get her, she's going to the vet to have her BG checked, she's also thought to be deaf, good weight, and I'll be picking her up Thursday.
6. What diet do you currently feed your ferrets? (Please include all treats, supplements, etc)
Pocket eats chicken, rabbit, and quail. (I'm planning on giving him a more diverse meat choice soon.) He also likes it in soup form. I also use canned pumpkin sometimes for roughage. In the soup, other than the meats, I'll add eggshell powder and water(sometimes broth). He gets pinkies as treats.
Jessi & Anni are both on 8 - 1 Ultimate Blend with Ferretone added to their bowls of food. Anni is also given Duk Soup to make sure she's eating regularly.
7. Have you ever tried to switch your ferrets to a natural diet in the past? If yes, what happened?
I switched Pocket immediately, he refused to eat any kind of kibble and someone on here suggested the raw diet, he ate it instantly. To my knowledge the girls have never been on a raw diet.
8. What additional information about yourself or your ferrets would you like to share?
Well my name is Amber Greene, I'm 20 years old, I love animals, and I'm planning on going to college to become a vet. I raise exotic animals and am in the process of getting my Class B USDA license I have fallen in love with ferrets and think I will have atleast 1 the rest of my life! ;D My favorite color is green, I listen to every type of music, from gospel to heavy metal, to techno and country, etc lol. I love reading, four wheeling, hiking, photography, drawing, etc. I try to be nice to everyone, and I'm a total softy. Not really sure what else to say!
9. How often during the week do you have access to a computer?
Typically 7 days a week, but sometimes the internet will go out and won't get fixed for a few days.
10. Please post a picture of each of your ferrets (if possible).
I can get pictures Friday
