The main thing to worry about with rice is that they don't get the "instant" kinds of rice that expands in water. If they eat any of that it will easily cause a life threatening blockage. I haven't bought anything to make his dig box yet because I hate shopping around the holidays. However, Oxley went on a walk outside last night and began shoveling dirt with his face. He started sneezing mud so I brought him in and did a fun bath play time with him. Is letting him play in the dirt ok?

Letting them play in the dirt is fine. Some ferret owners even have outside enclosures for their fuzzies. I've heard that playing outside in the dirt and grass also helps their smell from the oils on their skin. This is Marie's youtube channel, which has videos of her gorgeous enclosure for her ferrets www.youtube.com/channel/UCPJ2089GkzYCq-aBIIMC6wg

I live in West Texas and it is flat and dry with lots of stickers! Her ferrets are so big and beautiful they look like bears. I have been wanting to make an indoor/outdoor run for the cat and now Oxley. Thank you for the information and the videos. Oxley doesn't smell much to me lately (not to mention I'm starting to like his odor ) and I'm hoping to take everyone's advice and bring his smell down to almost nothing.
