I've got a boy with a Hagen tat (Captain Jack)....looks similar to your RC tat but it's green (it's really because they're the same company ) I will see if I can get a pic of it. It doesn't show up very well , it's not near as dark and you really have to look for it ciao

I've actually discovered one of mine has an "H" tat as well. Unfortunately, you can only see it from the back when the light is shining through it the right way, because it's green! Don't think I can get a pic of that, though

My Real Canadian's tattoo is a green line that is vertical on his ear.

Maybe they use different inks sometimes? Both my RC's have the solid blue line as well

I'm beginning to think that RC/Hagen tats are just where ever they happen to set the tat tool. Captain Jack's is right along an ear fold. Lady "B" has her tat similar to what Sherry discribed...you can only see it through the back of the ear and that's only sometimes ciao

Ferretfreke that is interesting. Are you sure that he is an RC? It sounds like he may be a Hagen from Heather and Sherry's descriptions.. Koda came with RC paperwork (which I also plan to scan in and post). I didn't get papers with Kenai unfortunately. And Heather I know what you mean. That tattoo is fairly deep in Koda's ear, and hidden by a fold. It was a serious pain in the butt to get that picture!

Mine is Lucrezia, and we've had her for three years! Just saw the tat a week or so ago for the first time. We'd always thought she must be PV, because we never found a tat before, and she seemed to fit the general size/ behavior pattern.

My RC is 7 and from a shelter so it's possible he's not. But maybe they were doing them different back then. He has the RC look about him and the lady that turned him into the shelter was adamant that he was, but who knows. I just know I adore him! I did research it once and by what I found he is a RC.

I had to go look at my roommates RC's tattoo and hers is a blue vertical line.

I do believe that RC and Hagen were owned by the same group at one point. Even so, I do know that Hagen and RC ferrets are known to have similar personalities and builds. IMO you probably have a Hagen boy. But who knows? It i very possible they changed their tattoos multiple times. Is the tattoo a bar, or an H or a capitol I? I know someone was saying their ferret had a bar tattoo, but when they looked closer they realized it was a capitol I. Then there are some randome ones too like someone had a ferret with 2 pink dots...I forget which breeder that is...

He has the capital I, which when I read about them years ago, was RC. My roommates supposed RC is a capital I also just a different color. Doesn't really matter to me. Sounds like they're the same ferts anyways.

And don't forget- we now have a breeder located somewhere in Manitoba who also uses a capital H.

That will make huge confusion because RC operates out of Manitoba too. Hagen operated out of Quebec, they closed that breeding facility. My understanding is that they either closed or were bought out by RC or are RC ferrets. I'm beginning to wonder if in some convoluted way all these Canadian farms are one and the same....Tats are registered, like a trademark. One company cannot use the same one if the other is still registered. We're still getting 3 different colours with varying degrees of some kind of I or H stamp. I'm wondering if it's some way to beat some legal, health or monetary loop hole and that there may indeed be 2 or 3 facilities in operation but are actually satellite companies of RC ferrets (sorry my degree was in business not health sciences ). This is one way to get around having to shut down a breeding facility if a health issue comes up (like the virus that was found in the RC ferrets) There may also be an import/export issue. Canada has some real funky laws about ferrets as they're classified as a wild animal (check food and drug....they're in with the foxes, skunks and coyotes) ciao
