Hey, y'all! My partner and I are moving to a new home and this one has a staircase, which I've never had to deal with before. The handrail isn't solid and has some wider gaps between the poles and we are trying to find ways to ferret proof it. I was thinking a baby gate so they can't just go up it all the time (so we can open it and let them up the stairs if we want) but the baby gate would be useless because of how big the gaps are, the boys could easily slip through it. Does anyone have any suggestions to help us block the gaps?

The nice way to do it would be to measure and cut a plexiglass or similar acrylic sheet to go along the stair railing. The cheap and fast way to do it would be to get some really big cardboard pieces taped together and do the same. You can get the cardboard to stay in place without taping it to the rails themselves by weaving it in between them.

That's kind of what we do now with our TV stand lol! We have cardboard velcroed to the front so they can't get in it. We were thinking either the plexi/acrylic, but one thing I thought of doing too was finding shelves (like IKEA has individual shelf squares) and getting a bunch to cover the entire banister! But I think the plexi/acrylic may be our best bet since it'll be so much easier lol

just try a marshall playpen or similar. attach to bottom upright posts with zip ties and to wall with eye bolts
