So, yesterday one of our ferrets, Church, was choking on some food. I was terrified, obviously, and was screaming, shaking, crying, all while I'm rubbing his throat and holding him upside down (I thought maybe it would help get it out??). He managed to get it out and my partner saw a way to do a Heimlich on a ferret, but idk how to ensure we do it correctly just in case something like that happens again. I was wondering if anyone had any advice?

Very scary, but I also don’t know what to do aside from that online hiemlich description.

might be a good idea for everyone here to check it out. could you please post the link? Remember, as with humans, if there is coughing or sneezing, there is breathing so it's best to let the victim try to work it out on his own. A ferret can't grab his own throat to signal choking. I've never had that happen, but I have seen a lot of sneezing and coughing that the ferret was able to resolve on its own.
