Las Vegas, Nevada (USA)
I started with the “premier” vet...the owner lackadaisically and likely improperly diagnosed my girl with insulinoma.
New vet: a bit better, but 1. No experience with medicine-induced diabetes in ferrets (literally, zero)...conferred with all the other exotic vets in the practice, they don’t know and have never encountered this, either. 2. Prescribed a probiotic full of sugar to a ferret with (at the time) diabetes. I caught it, she did not get the probiotic. 3. Has diagnosed “competing tumors” insulinoma and glycogen tumors...probably. 4. Gave a green light for the Des implant, even with the above condition. 5. In my opinion, fails to see her medical history in a “big picture” sort of way...and isn’t that what all doctors are supposed to do?
...at this point, I’m willing to travel, I’m willing to forward all medical test results and her entire record to someone who is a GOOD vet and would discernibly look her info over, comprehensively. I’m in such dire need of a vet who knows what they’re doing and can think critically, about “the whole animal”.
...Anyone have any suggestions? I don’t have time or the money to become a vet myself, but honestly, I’ve thought about it.
