Im Sorry, im sure this thread has been made one too many times, i have tried looking for the information but im not forum savvy.
im wanting to swap my guys over to a pure raw diet and have many many questions. they currently eat science selective ferret kibble, which here in the uk is an okay brand seen by many people its what i feed as its locally easy to obtain.
Mushroom is 7months old does eat meat to a degree but it really extends to a large mouse and some mince or breast on a Friday evening. wont eat bone ever and wont touch anything with bone in such as a chicken wing but will crunch a mouse? he also eats raw egg
evie (or eevee) on the other hand is 8 months and ive not tried on mouse or mince yet shes a new rescue but likes raw egg
i adopted a few weeks ago from a family that was keeping her and her brother (wally) on go cat(one of the worst cat food brands here with wheat being the first item), so have been working her onto selective, took her to the vets for a checkup and turns out shes pregnant, the old owner kept her in with wally the unaltered male while she was in season they "didn't know" why she was "prolapsed" but they didn't take her to the vets and now we have young on the way, with good homes set up. ive noticed shes extremely malnurioushed and skinny though has put on weight since being with me
I personally don't think the mentor programme is for me as 1: im sure there a people out there who need it more
and 2 mushroom is eating raw chuncks, eevee i can work with using the pre existing switch threads made by those who went through the programme (though the shiny red badge looks nice)
My 2 main concerns are: how do i get mushroom eating more bone and proper bone in stuff?
and do i wait until eevee has given birth and the kits are old enough to fend for themselves or can i start now as shes a week in to her pregnancy?
and how do i go about making sure to get the right grams in food for the right weight of the ferret, this is especially important for evie if i do start now
and one last thing, im shopping for 80/10/10 mixes i found a few on a site that's cheap and well recommended by ferretrys in my country with 10% bone but theres no heart? it contains
Minced lamb, lamb tripe, lamb kidney and lamb bone
and then theres a 70/20/10 type one with 20% bone but contains heart ingredients are
Minced lamb meat, heart, lung and chicken, including bone
i know heart is important do i get the 80/10/10 one and just feed on days where they have bone and muscle on that day?
also if theyre on a raw diet will they forget kibble as they will be swapped back to kibble if i have to go away for a few days and theres no one to feed them for me
many thanks guys
