I’ve been starting to grind up the ferrets bone in meals but I realized that I’m not quite sure if I’m feeding them enough. I used to feed my 2 girls 2oz of bone-in meat and there was always pieces left over. So I continued to feed them 2oz of grinds but they gobble it up ASAP and look to me for more. Should I be feeding them so that there is a bit left over? I fed them a double meal today and out of 4 oz there was about a 1/2 oz left sooo they ate 3.5oz!
It’s also worth adding that Ellie has always had a thing with trying to stash extra soup meals in her tummy (the most secure hiding spot) because she learned that stashing soup in her hiding spot doesn’t work too well. If Missy isn’t around when soup is served Ellie will end up eating all of it to the point of throwing up.
I don’t want to starve my girls but I also don’t want them to feel like they need to eat all of it to “keep it safe”

Ok so I answered my own question. Last night no one was very interested in dinner at first but they ate most of it by the morning. So I’m going to start giving them more and measure the left overs and adjust from there!

Grinds are much easier to eat, so yeah they often will eat more if given a chance. Keep a VERY close eye on their weight as this is the one time some ferrets will overeat.

Lol, yeah Ellie is definitely in the likely to overeat category. The little girl (she’s short and stubby) gets very excited for meal time but I’ve noticed that if she eats a lot during one meal she’ll eat less on the next one. Plus I’ve been trying to get Missy in there first so she can eat what she wants and Ellie can scarf down whatever is left. It turns out that Missy doesn’t like eating when Ellie is. Im thinking she likes her personal space and doesn’t like others trying to eat the food out of her mouth 😂
