If I caught a mouse in my house, is it safe to give to my ferret! It's a dead mouse now.

As long as you are certain no one put out poison, freeze for 3 weeks to eliminate parasites and feel free

As long as you are certain no one put out poison, freeze for 3 weeks to eliminate parasites and feel free I live here alone and don't use poison because I have other animals as well. It was eating my dog's food so I caught it. Ok I did put it in the freezer. Good to know!!! I'd like to try prey with him too!!

The only thing you need to be able to do is dispatch the prey yourself if he botches the kill.

There was another mouse in my house too but that was for the cat. I think she was playing with it. It ran under my desk and she ran under there and sat beside it. So I caught that mouse and took it outside and let it go. I never thought to give it to Charlie. lol So when I caught this mouse that's why I thought I would ask if it was safe for him to eat. Thanks Sherry!

Personally, if I found a mouse in my home, before offering it to my ferrets, I'd be checking in with the nearby neighbors on whether or not they have rat poison out anywhere. Even if you don't, they might have, and sometimes the poison can be in their system, but have not yet killed them.

Does the poison spread to their meat/organs or does it mostly stay in their digestive system? I wonder if gutting and rinsing out the mouse before feeding would reduce the risk of exposing ferrets to poison.
