I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for pet/baby gates to block doorways. I want to get a gate to keep them out of the bedroom but so far all the ones I’ve looked at have the bars too far apart or have horizontal bars that they could climb.

i had the same problem when i still had pet rats, i just cut out bits of cardboard and stuck on the gate so they couldn't escape, but i don't know if its good

I’ve had good results with an ordinary baby gate with a sheet of suitable-sized perspex threaded through the bars to provide a no-climb barrier.

In doorways I would cut a piece of particle board that was wide enough to fit inside the lip of the doorway and tall enough for me to easily walk over and hold it in place with a couple of pin nails.

I use a solid Safety First baby gate.

Tah-dah!! So we ended up getting a safety first walk through gate so we don’t have to trip over it in the middle of the night. Then we got some thicker plexiglass and cut it and drilled holes to zap strap it on to prevent ferrets from getting in. I have to say that I’m very happy with the results. The ferrets lost interest in scratching at it pretty quick and it’s easy to get into the bedroom without uninvited guests sneaking in. Thanks for the ideas everyone!
