Hey everyone, Rogue and Calamity have awesome appetites these days and will eat anything I put in front of them...except for chicken hearts. I've cut them up into itty bitty pieces and nothing. They're 10 weeks old so I have zero desire to just let them go hungry until they eat it. Is there anything I can do to make them more appetizing for the youngins? Thanks!

Well.. the first approach would be to make a heart only soupie and try the Grab'n'Dab method of introducing it to them. There are enticements you can use, but these can sometimes spoil the wee buggers to the point they expect it there and won't eat without it. Enticements can be raw egg drizzle, salmon oil drizzle, raw soupie drizzle, crumble of FDR treat... etc.

I think I'll go for the grab and dab approach. I'd hate to spoil them with enticements because they're already turning their nose up to FDR since they've had so much fresh meat. I'd prefer them to not totally turn down commercial raw but it appears we're headed that way!

Haha, that's lucky for you actually. Many fuzzies go the opposite route and will hold out for FDR instead of the normal raw. I managed to get mine happy with eating Frankenprey and FDR/Commercial Grinds, so I still include a bit of the latter in their weekly menu.

Interesting. Maybe because these are just babies? They were introduced to FDR first while I figured out what to do for fresh meat. Tonight I gave them some FDR and they just kept coming back to the bowl and sniffing at it and then running away. I just now gave them a bowl of duck and they're eating as though they've never eaten before. They're still so young that I want them to eat no matter what. I just think about those that may ferret sit for me some time and how much easier it would be if they would accept FDR. Oh well...That time will come and will be interesting I'm sure!

Is it a new protein by any chance? Or one they haven't had in a while? Oddly enough, I've noticed with even mine that there is some odd either texture or taste difference between fresh/normal raw turkey and FDR turkey for example, though it makes sense as the process used to make FDR can alter textures and tastes a bit.
If you give a tiny piece of it dry as-is, like a treat, it can let them taste it and get used to the taste again. I used that process to introduce all the various proteins I've offered my furballs as FDR for the first times, or if it's been very long since they've had a particular protein in FDR.
Honestly though, if you label your meals well enough and have a well-written out menu, it won't be too hard for anyone to follow. It kinda just ends up as thaw in fridge and dump in bowl, tada. ; P
