1. Where did you first learn about natural diets for ferrets?
Before getting Drogon and Ridley I was doing my research about what ferrets can and cannot eat. We started with kibble after getting them and the groups and friends I have on FB have really helped me learn quite a bit, I also explored the Holistic Website before deciding that this is what we want to do
2. Please describe the type of diet you would like assistance in switching your ferret(s) to. Be sure to include if you are interested in feeding whole prey (live or frozen-thawed) and if you are wanting to FULLY switch to a natural diet or PARTIALLY. If you are unsure what kind of diet you want to put your ferrets on, please express that and we can help you find the best type of natural diet for your ferret.
I have already started the switch, Drogon and Ridley have been eating raw for about 3 weeks now and are doing really good. I need help with balancing, menus and variety. All they have been eating is Chicken Wings, Gizzards, Hearts and Liver. I am going to my local butchers shop to see what they have cause i dont feel comfortable giving other meats from Walamrt (where i have been getting the food). But I am more interested in getting them on a Whole Prey diet, I figure get them use to the taste of flesh and then have help with the Whole Prey transition. I need help with balance since I know its important and help maybe set up a menu for each day.
3. Why are you interested in switching your ferrets to a natural diet?
I believe a happy animal also comes from their food. Since this transition I have noticed an increase in play and smoother coat. I want to give my boys the best diet and what way to do that then give them raw meat and thats the only ingredient on the package.
4. Do you understand that switching your ferret to a natural diet can be a lengthy, arduous process? Its not an overnight switch. It requires a commitment of several months at minimum. Your HF Mentor will be more then happy to assist you in switching your ferret(s) to a natural diet, but you need to be equally as committed. The switch takes time and effort every single day. It can also be extremely frustrating at times. If you aren't willing to tough out a potentially lengthy switching process, you have major life changes approaching (baby on the way, moving, starting school, getting married/divorced, etc), or limited time due to work, then it might be a better idea to wait on switching your ferret's diet until you have more time. Are you willing and realistically able to make the necessary time commitment?
I am willing to do this, but I have to also point out that I work grave yards at a assisted senior facility and not all the time am i on my computer cause i need rest. But having talking to a good friend who is a mentor on here said thats easy to work around. I am very good about telling people when ill be gone and when ill be back, so this shouldnt be a problem, but i wanted to point that out, and usually the best time when ill be on alot is through my days off.
5. How many ferrets do you currently have? What are their names? Ages? Genders? Do they have any health problems? If so, what medications are they currently on? Are they overweight? Underweight? How long have you had each ferret for?
I currently have 2 hobs, Drogon and Ridley are their names. Both turned 8 months old on the 20th, both are sibling brothers from the same litter no health issues. not overweight or underweight. I have had Drogon and Ridley for 5 months now.
6. What diet do you currently feed your ferrets? (Please include all treats, supplements, etc) Do they already eat some form of soup?
Main meal is Chicken Wings, Gizzards, Hearts and Liver
Treats are Purebites Freeze Dried Chicken Chunks and Stewart Freeze Dried Chicken Liver.
and no soup
7. Have you ever tried to switch your ferrets to a natural diet in the past? If yes, what happened?
no this is their first time with me. their first time was when they were tiny tiny babies with the private breeder i got them from.
8. What additional information about yourself or your ferrets would you like to share?
I am strong minded and easy to get along with. I love learning knew things. I do have a learning dissability so if i ask the same thing over and over its me trying to understand it and it can get hard at times cause i just cant get it. I do become frustrated at that point, cause some things it just hard to process. Thats why i also have my notebook with me to maybe write some stuff down so that it will be with me forever and so i can use it.
9. How often during the week do you have access to a computer?
Should be everyday, but normally once or twice weekly. i am trying to train myself to wake up at a decent time before i start work to be able to get some things done even be on here. So far its real hard but I will have a whole month schedule coming in so i can give my mentor my days off
