Peter received his implant on Friday afternoon.I'm really keeping fingers crossed that it kicks in fast for him, and more importantly that it makes a difference. We ended up having to give him karo when I got him to work. His doctor was able to do all of his treatments: implant, antibiotics, fluids...all without help. I got him home and we fought about food a bit, it's amazing how much fight he can still have in him when he's basically bottoming out. He ate a good amount over the afternoon and evening Friday, and peed through a potty pad by the time I did final meds and went to bed that night. He really needed those fluids, and when I was looking for the bubble to give him his pepcid into that night it was already gone, he absorbed them all by that point. Saturday was a good day, he ate a lot in the morning (for him), and throughout the day. His Dr wants him to use as low energy as possible, which means not letting him roam. Which I agree with because when he's low he gets restless and wanders. But by yesterday afternoon he was pitching a fit because he wasn't out. He's not used to being kept in when we're home, and for a deaf and mostly blind ferret he still certainly knows when we're home! So I relented and let him out, he wandered around and did his rounds, ate some food, cleaned his face in his spot near the front door (on his microfiber towel, so he then itched his head and neck too and made a production), conquered the trash can, and settled into his fish bed. He happily stayed there throughout the afternoon and evening until I bugged him for food or he had to pee. Oh, and then when his dad got home. He came out to find him and sniff his shoes and did another perimeter check before sprawling back into his fish. He ate A TON last night. This morning he's quiet but not such that I'm terribly worried. I AM worried though about leaving him this evening, it'll be 6 or so hours we aren't home. My mom is coming over to offer him some food in the middle of it. I'm going to do his meds and food before I leave.
I took Friday, Monday and Tuesday off of work for a different reason, but I'm so glad I did now, with him in delicate shape.
He's extremely picky in general, more so now when he doesn't feel good. I'm trying to add a tiny bit of Hare Today grinds into his S&C right now but he goes back and forth between okay with it and not happy about it. What are some high protein options for him that I can look into? I'm offering him carnivore care in his food but he backs off of that a lot most of the time and he won't touch anything that comes out of a can.
