Many of us have heard our ferrets bark before. When they are suddenly startled, or suddenly angry, or really stressed. Unfortunately capturing it on video for others is virtually impossible as it is a one off, unexpected reaction. Thanks to Mike Kent, one of our facebook group members, who actually finally caught a ferret bark on film, we can let all our newer owners understand what we mean when we say ferrets actually bark Listen for the sharp sound at about 20, and then again at 26 seconds

My Nibbles used to screech or bark when startled or Little Bear tried to take a piece of meat from her. Nibbles was really loud though. She doesn't do it any more.

Scamp, aka Junior/June Bug, aka Little F**k, is the only ferret (RCF) we've had that barked. His bark was loud and deep. The first vid sounds just like a Euro Polecat bark, but the poleys will do a long string if they're really upset.
bark and hiss

We used to use that one unclejoe but our domestic ferrets don't usually sound like that. So we would say similar but different What was funny when someone shared that particular video on fb was the response of Heather's poley hybrid crew. Evidently they ignore ferret noises from videos, but that one they scattered and hid!

Yah, that was a stinky bit of work. I've played countless videos of ferrets screeching, screaming and even barking (the one at the top of the page), never even a whisker out of the poley crew. Had the girls upstairs enjoying some time with them. Lady Lola was tube running with Lady Boudicca and Lady Merida was stretched out getting a belly rub (I know...not very poley of her lol)....I turned this video of the trapped polecat hob on and suddenly everything stopped and they were gone...well....they were gone except the lingering stench of poof {gag}. I don't know what that poley was saying but those girls didn't show a whisker for at least half an hour and they were spooky for the rest of the night. ciao

i know our pets on this side of the pond don't chirp like that. I'm glad, too. It is a vid of a polecat, not an American domestic ferret. My point was that the bark sounds like that. In our domestics, you may get one or two chirps, not the long string. The only time I've heard it in person was Scamp.

My hybrid jill barks and chirps like the one in the European Polecat video, she honks like a kit a lot too but that's because she throws a tantrum when she doesn't get what she wants haha

I had a hob who used to honk like a kit. Had a video of him giving a horrific song of whoa is me. I posted it here at one point but I would assume like everything else that was on photobucket it is being held for ransom ciao
