Could she have caught a respiratory virus? If she's not eating, try giving her some warm soup. Also I'd be tempted to vet.

I also now think that ellies reluctance to eat was down to food. This is tye 1st meal of turkey, before it was beef, & shes eating like a little champion! Tbh the beef did smell a little, despite it being freshly defrosted each day, so maybe that was the problem.
also, its new menu day so organ & muscle stay the same as last fortnight, i've got some duck hearts & for bone they have rabbit carcass chunks, chicken wings & duck necks. i also have a chicken carcass i need to portion, but that might be for next time.

Sorry I didn't get back earlier. Heather would like a bit more clarity for your menu. If you could list exactly what each bone in meal is and what muscle days etc. Ex:
Monday: Rabbit head am, pork meat pm Tues: Chicken wing am, turkey neck pm Wed: Premade organ mince am chicken wing pm

Ok so this week - Mon am - duck neck Mon pm - pork tongue
Tues am - rabbit carcass Tues pm - chicken wing
Wed am - organ Wed pm - duck neck
Thurs am - heart Thurs pm - chicken wing
Fri am - beef chunks Fri pm - rabbit carcass
Sat am - organ & heart Sat pm - duck neck
Sun am - pork tongue Sun pm - rabbit chunks
& then next week all the proteins will be shuffled around
Also - idk what went wrong with heart today, i pulled a load out to defrost & today it all looks like venison. Theres the odd bit that is heart, but mostly id say its venison. Which is weird cause the bags clearly labled. It must have been miss labled at one point & i added a new batch of heart to it at one point. Ill feed an extra meal of heart this week to be safe. Extra taurine is passed through urine isnt it?

Extra heart/taurine is no issue And yes, water soluble.

I thought so, thanks.
I forgot i have whole quail too, so id swap the odd duck neck meals for quail. No one ever seems to want to eat the duck neck

took ellie to a new vet today, new vet is happy that her heart sounds good, her bg was (i think) 3 40 mins after her morning pred, which isn't great but not as bad as it could be. she advised me to start brushing her teeth - can u recommend any toothpaste? & she's going to find out the correct dosage for cosequin for her joints because she actually felt her legs & agrees theres some stiffness, when i told my last vet i think she has arthritis he just laughed at me & rolled his eyes. it went well i think, she seemed knowledgeable, explained to me about enlarged spleens & how it's common in ferts.
we then took ellie & frank to the local cemetary for a wander in the grass - they loved it! for saying it was quite cool today, ellie did soooooo well! i havent seen her that active in ages & she must have been exploring for a good 30 - 40mins!!

Congratulations You've graduated and you're ready to walk this path alone. You have the foundation to help you feed your fuzzes in a more natural and healthy manner. Please remember that your learning never stops, and dietary needs change from ferret to ferret and throughout each their lives. I would like you to be aware that though you now have the capability and the knowledge to create your little ones diets you are never alone and that your mentor (you need only pm) is always available to you. The list is also a very good resource and you should always be aware that it's available to answer any questions you may have either about diet or care. On a more cautionary note, watch your bone in meats. The original list that I had from Sherry had some very heavy bone in, so just be careful to offset your heavy bone in meals with some extra muscle meats, so as to not constipate the wee ones <3 . Good luck, in a few days Sherry will lock down this thread and place it in the archives but be aware that you can always look through it as a reference tool but you just will not be able to post to it. Your mentor will be in to congratulate you a few.. Good luck ciao
