What a gorgeous little baby! She a mackerel tabby or spotted (can't see her back well enough)? So beautiful though, and it's great about the raw!
Ahh.. those were the days though.. so cute... so cuddly... so sweet... and now all I am stuck with is one major a-hole who looks at you like you are the poop under his spoiled nose when you don't run over to open the sink tap for him to drink at fast enough, lol. We still love him though, we've learned to live with our feline overlord who occasionally gets put in place by our little female ferret.
He doesn't want to know anything about raw, the last few times I tried to offer him some of what the ferrets were getting he threw up on my carpet by our bed (he did't even eat any of it), and the other time looked at me with one of those "mommy, just burn and die" stares, and yelled at me until he got a bowl of NV Instinct meaties instead.

She is a spotted tabby. She is picky with her meat. I tried giving her pig heart, kidney, and chicken heart. She wouldn't eat those, but she will eat beef liver....loves chicken and turkey. She will eat the leftover soupies from the ferrets though....She's weird! She is also a water lover. She doesn't drink the water, she just watches it. She is obsessed with watching us in the shower or bath tub, and watches the water in the humidifier, and every time we wash our hands, she is right there WATCHING the water.

It won't change my mind either way what she says. Now, only if my ferrets loved meat as much as her. We are working on them now with Megan

Hades gets pretty cowardly when water is involved normally.. he'll sit by the sink when we shower, or if I'm having a bubblebath, he might come sit on the edge of the tub after the ferrets have had their fun and leave (there's been a few times where he will drink my bathwater... or smack water droplets in my face, he did that most frequently after I had had my eye surgery, little monster). He also doesn't ever really come look at any snow I throw in the guest tub for the ferrets to play in when they can't go outside, but he's had be bring him a small pile time and again to lay by his feet so he could lick and paw at it.
But over the past months, he's gotten this obsession that he shall only drink out of a sink tap. We have a water dispenser for them that gets cleaned daily.. but he's too good to drink from the bowl (I assume he does when we aren't home, or simply deals with being thirsty) and yells at us when he needs one of us to follow him to a bathroom and open a tap to drink from.
I haven't been able to get Hades to agree to the idea of raw in any form. No matter how much he wants some canned food (I say canned because that's what he will usually get at the time I give the ferrets their breakfast or dinner raw), he will NOT touch any of the ferrets left over soupies, or even the thawed raw grinds, much less actual raw. He just sits there and cries until we give in because he is driving us nuts, he doesn't shut up.. he will whine, non-stop, for hours if he has to. I have tried everything to lure him to try new food, and nothing has worked thus far. If I refuse to feed him, he will just starve himself, unlike most of them. At least he's gotten over the crackpot addiction to bad kibble and eats the good high-quality kibble mix now.

β€β€β€β€ I recently adopted a cat and got her all switched over, Sherry is soooo right. πππππ she is SO soft. Don't forget to let your Mentor know that you got a kitten and are switching her too! π I'm sure your Mentor would be happy to help you switch your kitten!

We only drink Spring water as well. I'm going to go to the spring when it gets warmer out and get a bunch of water for all of us to drink. Bottles and gallons get expensive, but I don't mind. My fiance is Native American, so he doesn't believe in anything but spring water for living things!

I bought a $2.00 can thinking maybe it would help the ferrets switch, and she really didn't even like that! She is so spoiled! Have you tried mixing a little raw with the canned food? Your cat sounds like ours until we give her meat! Every time we go to the kitchen, she meows until we give her meat(or leave the kitchen) She sounds like someone is murdering her, how bad she cries for meat.

Yep, I've tried all of it. If I mix in a little, no matter how little.. he refuses touching any of it, even his favorite canned foods. He just sits there and yells at me, he even puked in my shoe once (yes, he went into my walk-in closet.. up to my shoes.. and puked in it).. I'm sure that one was on purpose.. or at least aimed with a purpose.
As for Spring Water.. that's me! LOL. My husband is the one with Native American blood, but he's none too fussy, he'll drink water bottles bought from Costco. None of us drink from the tap, but the cat. The water bowls get filled with bottled water from Costco, and I'm the one who doesn't even like those, I drink Spring water (when I can find it), so I have my own bottles, and I'm still trying to find a really good one. Right now the best tasting one I have found is Hawaiian Springs. Back in my home country (you do not drink from the tap, unless you want to die) I used to get BenΓ©, BonAqua, and Aquelle for water, which all tasted pretty good. I haven't found a lot to impress me here yet and most of them aren't even spring water, I've done Evian, SmartWater, Kirkland (Costco), Voss, Dasani, Arrowhead, Crystal Geyser, Aquafina, etc.

LindaM how badly do you want him to switch? It CAN be done. Although it can take some work. Just the fact you have a canned food he likes is half the battle. Took me 3 freaking YEARS to switch one of my cats from kibble to raw. Almost 2 of those years was just from kibble to canned. If he is on kibble ditch all of it. 2-3 scheduled meal times a day and that is it. He has 30 minutes to eat each time. Every meal time have a very small flat dish. Put about 1/2 tsp raw mince/puree(it will be thrown out) on it. Set that dish touching the dish his wet food is in. You want him to start to associate the smell of the raw with his meals. Do that for a month. Then you make a space in his dish at the very edge and put that wee bit of raw there. Again you will be throwing it out. Sooner or later he will start to at least sniff at the puree/mince, and then give a maybe lick, and then eating it. That may take a few weeks or a few months. But once he does you can start increasing the amount of raw and descreasing the canned.

I also liked the 'OOPS, I DROPPED THIS DELICIOUS PIECE OF RAW MEAT' method. I knew she would try it if she started playing with it. Sherry is on top of it with the scheduled feedings and getting him used to the smell. You may also want to make sure it's at least room temp or warm, some cats will regurgitate their food if it's too cold. My cat is one of these. I also have to limit her food intake in one sitting or she eats too much and regurgitates it all back up as well. Literally, she will inhale 3+oz in a sitting and it all just comes back up. My cat has no self regulation whatsoever. Needless to say, it's been a trial and error for me.

Thanks Sherry, I'm gonna start trying that, see how it goes, maybe it will take, at this stage I don't care how long, as long as there is light at the end of the tunnel. My one big concern that I have is, when I give the ferrets their morning or evening raw, and he expects his can of meaties too, I need to place his bowl away from where they are eating, because he'll go near their bowls and he starts making that gagging, hacking noise with the shivers running up and down his spine like he's going to throw up. It doesn't matter which type of meat they are eating either. As for the cans of food, I've at least been trying to push him onto the NV Instinct canned food, so that once he gets a taste for those, he might take easier to their range of frozen raw. But he HATES pates... it doesn't matter if I mush it apart with a spoon, he won't touch it, and sadly all of the Instinct cans are pates. He just wants the shreds, tiny slivers, or very small chunkies, which at first gave me hope that some chopped raw might work, but the bugger didn't give in and instead went and puked in my shoe. The reason I really want to switch him to raw is that he has always seemed to have some tummy troubles. I've had him at the vet for it as well, but the fecal tests and everything came back negative and the vet gave us a run of antibiotics (he was bleeding from his anus every time he went to poop, to the point he dripped blood all over my floor). The bleeding had stopped, and returned a few times over the course of a year, but never to that degree again, and usually there would just be a little blood on some poops, which made me fear he wasn't drinking enough water, so I started pushing more canned food for moisture, which seems to have helped it. The other reason is that his poops and farts were on a nuclear level, and he did and sometimes does weaponize it, lol. When I got him onto the high quality kibble mixes, the smell decreased a lot, but it still is pretty bad. None of my previous cats had ever had such bad smelling poops. And he does throw up at least once every 1-2 weeks (sometimes it's just throwing up food alone, sometimes it was a hairball or idiocy like him chewing a cardboard box or the Christmas tree). Which made me begin to wonder, if putting him on the raw, might not just be better to help with all his tummy issues. Other than those concerns, he seems to be in great health. Clear eyes, lovely coat (even though to me compared to my yummy smelling ferrets, he stinks like some kind of wet men's soap), strong nails, good energy, arrogant "worship me" personality (lol), etc. Aftershock, I tend to give all of them room-temperature foods, as I've seen how picky they can get about food that's too cold, lol. And luckily, Hades doesn't seem to have a scarfing too much food problem. And sadly my cat is a bit of a retard... he will play with food, yes, like a treat of chicken (those 1-ingredient treats from Purina: Chicken, Tuna, Salmon chunkies for example, though these he will actually eat after playing with) and smack it about for a while, and then he's done, doesn't eat it, just leaves it where it is and walks away without ever returning to it.

I'm sorry, I am dying laughing over here! Cats are such BUTTHEADS. I've noticed Sealy doing the 'I'm going to act like I puke so you feed me' thing before too. Hmmmmm, I'm not sure on the bloody poops. That sounds scary though. Sherry may have more insight than I on that. the food temp thing was something I had to figure out on my own. I'm used to feeding my ferrets semi thawed foods. Do you praise the heck out of him when he plays with his food and eats it? I noticed I was able to kind of praise push Sealy into trying new proteins with it if she didn't go straight in to lick it. When I first offered her duck, she just played with it, then she'd go to sniff it, and I praised her super hard. I kept that up, and she eventually licked it, then started eating it. I hope I am not coming off pushy! Just thinking of things I did with Sealy that helped her out.
