So it wasn't fur after all. It was the fabric bag in the first pic which means she'd chewed on it earlier than I thought. We have poop, rather healthily large poop and a starving ferret. She eagerly ate all the pumpkin (2 servings) and the Vaseline (1 serving) and after finally pooping for me, is begging for dinner. I know the Vaseline is still working through her system and it is coating her intestines, but I went ahead and let them have dinner (organ pudding) in the hope that the organs will finish out the job. I'm going to watch for the next stool and check them for more 'fur' but I think we're going to be in the clear. It doesn't appear she ate a large piece, but rather, scissors small pieces off. I am baffled, though. Is this a new form of manipulation from her? You won't feed me what I want so I'll eat what I want? I can't hang with that 😂😭

Silly girl. She still looks good, so keep doing what you are doing. She is trying to "out-stubborn" you at the moment She will get there, don't fear. Right now if you go back to the tiny pieces she will learn she can outwait you.

I have remained as stubborn as she (bella) but man, she's got staying potential! Moxie continues to do better than her at accepting pieces as they make it into her mouth. Bella really acts like she doesn't understand what she's supposed to do with them. I tried holding a piece of chicken for her, she chewed off a piece, then took the rest of it and set it down out of the way. I haven't made them any smaller, but I don't know that they're ready for larger, at least, Bella isn't.
Moxie doesn't eat a lot, and I've been allowing her to choose how much she wants. She is so tiny, but still active and interested. I've taken to walking her nightly, her energy is boundless sometimes. She like to run in the park we have close by. And her nose can pick out prey like I've never seen! She found a rats' leg lying on the side of the road! lol I'm tempted to try a mouse with her again, see if I cut it open a bit more, if she starts to chew on it. Bella has no interest in whole prey, at least, not yet. Since we're in a holding pattern on piece sizes, do you think I should push Moxie a little with the mice?

Bella is still refusing to do anything other than lick off the egg, and pull pieces off the plate. Last night's chicken wasn't touched overnight. This is her first poop of the morning. It's the lighter, stringy one on top of the dark one. Moxie continues to do ok, she eats a few pieces when they're first put out but hasn't attempted to eat any in the time in between. I continue to weigh the plate directly after they finish and again when I place new food in. The only loss is from evaporation as there's hardly ever more than a couple grams difference. Here's an example of the size pieces I've been cutting. Tonight is organs again and I will be making them chunky.

Just keep reminding yourself- she's young, she's healthy, and she's overweight This isn't going to hurt her at all. Also let's try a different protein mixed with the chicken and see how it is accepted. Pork is usually well accepted. Bella is a stubborn girl but we'll break that barrier. For now, stop with the egg, and mix with a bit of oil and eggshell powder. That will also help the looser stools.

Moxie continues to do well, she eats every piece she picks up, even though it's not a lot. Bella is still remaining stubborn. She is eating a little but it's mainly the pieces she scissors off in an attempt to find they easy food. I've kept the pieces on the larger size but not uncomfortably so. Yesterday morning she was acting so frantic every time my hands came near her, looking for food, I ended up picking her up and holding her braced against my body in one arm and offering her pieces by hand. When she took them, I didn't let her go. She ended up eating several pieces before I put her down. I was hoping it would help turn the lightbulb on for her, that she is perfectly capable of eating chunks. I didn't try it again this morning but I did notice she seemed to scissor more of the pieces of chicken, even if she didn't try to fully eat them. They had chunky organs last night and did pretty well with them so hopefully we're making some headway. Activity level remains good, poops are still in production. I'm not sure what else to try with her, other than keep on keeping on. Pics because they're cute and I love them to bits 😂❤

They are both doing well And yes, the lightbulb moment will click for her soon. Keep pushing Moxie with larger pieces, and leave in pieces the size they are now for Bella. Don't let her manipulate her into backsliding. Also with Moxie it may be time to try her with some bone in pieces. Cornish hen is a good starter bone. Segment the wings and smash the bone up really well with a heavy knife. You can also use the ribs when you cut the bird up. You are going to want to use eggshell powder sprinkled on the meat for Bella for calcium.

Ok, I have some in the freezer, I'll pull them out for defrosting and get them added in the next couple days. I'll increase some of the piece sizes tonight and tomorrow and see what she does. I can also get my hands on whole quail, which I thought might be nice as an additional protein. They've had it before, back when I was handfeeding everything. Bella enjoyed the quail immensely, perhaps she'll find it appealing enough to try chewing again.

Now that is a good idea! If she really liked the quail, then use it.

Oh, I have been using bone meal powder for each breakfast, in case I forgot to mention it. I've tried to not forget something for calcium. They've been getting the BMP since I stopped hand feeding a month ago or so.

😂 Since we've been on such a limited rotation without bone in meats, should I post up a menu for you to take a look at? I can do that this evening, along with the survey.

Man this has been a tough couple weeks. As persistent as I've been, Bella's been more so. The only time she was eating her fill was during organ nights, despite me leaving things chunkier, she really was packing them away. BUT THAT'S ALL CHANGED! I wanted to upload all the videos I've been taking but I can't seem to put them in order Since offering the quail, we've had some successes. Moxie ate the wing all by herself the first morning. Bella chewed a little but remained stubborn (and hungry) as usual. The next couple of mornings, Moxie continued to eat her wing with only me offering it to her, not holding it for her. She's really surprised me. Even though she is by far and away too tiny for my comfort, she is active, pooping and happy. This morning was different. Not only did they clean the plate of pork slices (1/2inch wide, 1 1/2 inch long) from last night (which NEVER happens), Bella took her own piece of quail from the plate without oil, egg or me offering and ATE IT! lol not entirely but she really worked at it! While I was busy cooing over and filming Bella, Moxie went to the plate and started eating a piece by herself! I could cry I'm so darn happy! This is Bella a few days ago, still trying to figure out what she's supposed to do with these pieces. This is Bella yesterday taking her first voluntary piece (after some encouragement earlier). This is Bella this morning, FINALLY getting the idea that if she puts a little effort into it, she'll have a full belly. All I did was place the plate. I didn't have to call for her, oil it down, put a piece in her mouth, nothing!! We're getting there! Oh my gosh, we're actually getting there!! (if you couldn't tell from all my exclamation points, I am thrilled) I will post a menu tonight for you, as well as current weights.
