You know your stuff! And yes, I changed it when I realize the two were too similar Are you omfortable with the size of pieces they are eating now? As in you know how to keep increasing for them if that is what you choose to do?

Yes, definitely. The pieces keep increasing in size and so far, they haven't balked except for Bella on muscle pieces (and beef), but I caught her eating a piece of cgh that had no bone in it so I know it's now only a matter of time.
Last night's organs were a fail π I only had uterus as the other organ and they don't seem to care for it much! πππ But at least they did eat some before walking away. I believe I'll reduce the amount of uterus and add a bit of kidney to help them get used to the taste.
As far as whole prey goes, I know that more than likely I'll have to chop them up and mix them with a favorite protein to encourage them to try and eat it. The fur will be the part that's hardest to introduce, I think. Moxie already shows extreme interest, Bella will probably be my hold out, although she surprised me by eating a meal worm before Moxie did so she might surprise me again!

In that case, how do you feel about writing out a final menu? Are you comfortable enough to do this with only questions either via pm, or open on the forum?

I do believe I'm ready, thank you! This has been enlightening, to say the least, but I feel pretty confident in my girls, now, and myself. I can be more stubborn than them! And they are doing really well! Mon AM - Quail (b) PM - Beef (m) Tues AM - Chicken neck (b) PM - Beef (m) Wed AM - Quail (b) PM - 4oz heart (chicken), 2oz liver (chicken), 2oz kidney (pork) (o) Thurs AM - CGH (b) PM - Goat (m) Fri AM - Quail (b) PM - 4oz heart (chicken), 2oz liver (pork), 2oz brain (pork) (o) Sat AM - Chicken wing (b) PM - Pork (m) Sun AM - Quail (b) PM - 4oz heart (chicken), 2oz liver (pork), 2oz sweetbreads (pork) (o)

A couple of days ago I tried feeding mouse again. Bella actually licked it this time, though she wouldn't take a piece. Moxie was obsessed! But hadn't figured out she could eat anything other than the feet and tail. I ended up making 'mouse rings' and drizzled salmon oil over it. By the end of the night Moxie had eaten two pieces, though she struggled a bit trying to figure out what to do with the fur π I'm so proud! I also found a supplier close to me, two actually, so mouse and rat will be making an appearance in the menu in a couple weeks! (we're moving and I need to clear the freezer out so no new foods for right now)
Bella has taught Moxie to sneak pieces by me and stash them in the garage π So I put a little box in the cage and they're using it! They still try to sneak pieces but will turn around and head into the box once they see that I've seen them ππ We are still struggling to eat muscle meats (ironic) but they are coming around. I just wanted to update about whole prey. These girls make me so happy! β€β€

Congratulations :goodjob: You've graduated and you're ready to walk this path alone. You have the foundation to help you feed your fuzzes in a more natural and healthy manner. Please remember that your learning never stops, and dietary needs change from ferret to ferret and throughout each their lives. I would like you to be aware that though you now have the capability and the knowledge to create your little ones diets you are never alone and that your mentor (you need only pm) is always available to you. The list is also a very good resource and you should always be aware that it's available to answer any questions you may have either about diet or care. Just a word, there is a lot of meat (organs) that are used, more than necessary per the week. Sherry has said she's mentioned this and that you've got a fair amount of wastage. Be careful with your amounts as too much can actually throw off your balance if you ever get a wee sod that eats all that food . Each ferret is an individual in their dietary needs and you may encounter the need to increase a bone in meal (you actually have the ability according to your menu to increase a bone in meal or two) if you ever have kits to feed it will need to be increased. Otherwise, great job. Good luck, in a few days Sherry will lock down this thread and place it in the archives but be aware that you can always look through it as a reference tool but you just will not be able to post to it. Your mentor will be in to congratulate you shortly :wave3: ciao

Woohoo! Thank you! I will keep that in mind regarding the bone in meals, especially if we ever get a kit or younger ferret. And the organs! Since I've been dicing them instead of blending them, they have definitely slowed down on how much they eat so I will probably scale back to offer 4 ounces total for those meals. I am so thankful for finding the forum and am extremely grateful to Aftershock for convincing me that I could be dedicated enough for the mentoring program (despite my chronic absences π). I would have never moved beyond small slivers without her help! And Sherry helped me realize that I was babying my princesses and they needed a firm push to teach them they CAN eat chunks and bones! Thank you ladies!! β€β€β€
