It seems that GEF is the closest one. 8 hrs away.

Unfortunately, having a breeder right on your doorstep is probably not going to happen, so taking special steps to secure a breeder's ferret is probably going to be necessary. You will either have to arrange transport (though many won't do this), plan on meeting them at a local ferret show or making a special trip to visit them and their ferretry. I've done this for every dog I've ever purchased. It works very well. It's time consuming and often difficult but I usually make it a weekend and turn it into a bit of a holiday trip. The nearest breeder for me is a couple of days away For me to go to the Buckeye Bash, which I think is the closest show to me is a 9 hour journey with a border crossing (this is sometimes an adventure in itself ) ciao

Actually my sister lives in the same town as GEF so they are not that inconvenient. Maybe one day I'll become a breeder so that people in this region can have access to something other than Marshalls.

Not to discourage you, but please make sure that you do your homework on that one. Breeding anything requires a lot of research, deep pocket (if you do this right you don't make money, if you're really lucky you break even) and often heartache ciao

;D ;D ;D ;D That would be a big maybe and definitely not possible for several years. Between research, building an outdoor enclosure, acquiring UK ferret lines, having an emergency fund...... ;D ;D ;D
Don't worry I won't be announcing baby ferrets anytime soon. But it would be nice for people to have alternatives.

I'm the same way, in theory I love the idea of breeding ferrets, but doing it right, producing healthy ferrets that are lovingly raised, and ferret meepers are so cute... but... Once you start thinking about all the details involved, and all the time and expense, I realize I don't have the time required, and whether I'd have the money to do it right is questionable ;D
Just adopting a ferret from a good breeder on the other hand, is so much easier and cost-effective! ;D

Yep, if you really think about it you won't do it. The other problem is that I've been adopting/rescuing animals so long that I find I tend to enjoy the older ones better than babies. Now I've never had a ferret baby and I'd like to at least have one but puppies I find really annoying right now . My son currently has a fiest. Boy is she a handful.

Is this only open to American breeders, or would an Australian be able to be listed also?

I don't see why not, but PM Sherry for sure. I'm not sure we ever actually listed breeders in this thread (it's been going on for that length of time)I believe you're allowed to but just double check ciao

Definitely list yourself here Or you could even start another thread! Do realize, however, that our other Aussie members may contribute good or bad to your post. Depending of course on what your breeding practices are.

I'm really struggling to find UK breeders here... I'm excited to get some when I find new accommodation for August that allows for pets and animals in the household, but I couldn't find much beyond lorelei's (which would be great, except breeding season's very far away)
Does anyone know of a way of finding private breeders? Google hasn't turned up with anything useful but one link has suggested that I should ask local vets. I'm not sure how viable that would be given that I have no pets at current.
