I'm looking for a breeder thats as close (but respectable) to the Metro Vancouver area of Canada, B.C. as possible.
Closest from what I can tell is ferretown, but thats a good 12 hour drive round trip. Based on advice from this forum I'd see if I can bring my current and only ferret along with me to pick out one she likes best. My only requirement is that its a dark colour, and not very white like Mika is, and a female. I've got my heart set on getting a little baby girl that hasn't been fixed.
Does anybody know about the price a female fixing costs?
I'm not looking to get one for a few months now, but I'm flexible on that. I can see how much more bored my ferret is being a loner.

I can see how much more bored my ferret is being a loner. 12 hours isn't so bad for a round trip, I would have done a 12 hour round trip in a heartbeat when I was hunting for breeders! I couldn't find any that close though so I picked Ferretown because Nancy was willing to fly a hob out to me on a plane. It would be fun if you got one from Ferretown, we could compare notes lol... I got my hob Finn from Ferretown USA and I'm really happy with him! He's a sweet little guy, he has a really cool temperament and personality. He's also chunky and muscular and at about 7 months old he's 4 lbs 14 ounces. He's a rebel, his parents are fine points but so far he has refused to lighten up his coat and so he looks pretty dark for a fine point ;D I wouldn't mind if he stayed this way forever though, I think his color is purdy. Last I checked, Ferretown had 2 sable jills available, maybe one of those would fit? This is my chunky monkey Finn, he's from a different litter though, the Pointer x Zoey litter: P1010744 by walkerstop, on Flickr

Currently in the process of likely getting a 6 month old male that she has. I couldn't wait for the next litter, and I decided I liked the thought of having a biggun running around. My female is so tiny.

Just thought I'd update about Quantum Leap Ferrets. This was my first time adopting from a breeder and the entire experience was wonderful. She had a sort of sun porch in the back that had about 5 really tall multi level self built cages with I don't know... maybe 5 ferrets in each cage. The facilities were great.
All of the ferrets I had experience with were very well behaved. She only had 3 ferrets in the cage to the left where she keeps the ferrets that don't like to use the litter box. She says all of the others never have accidents. She feeds a combination of raw, whole prey, and kibble.
The litter I chose from was inside her living room in a separate cage. The first one I held was the black roan mitt which is the one I thought I would want. I instantly fell in love as she was very friendly and calm in my arms.
She gave me paper work with care information and training info as well as a paper with info on the ferret herself. She even gave me two mice for the 4 and a half hour ride home.
So far the ferret (Eve) has been wonderful! She is beautiful, sweet, friendly, and funny. She hasn't had one accident outside the litter box. I gave her a cold chicken wing and she ate it right up. The breeder feeds frozen mice to her ferrets so they are used to cold meat. Less preparation for me!
Overall, great experience and I'm already in love with Eve.

I was planning on bringing my ferret out with me to meet the new one, but its a very long drive and since I've pretty much decided on the boy, do you think its necessary? I'm worried they might not like each other. Is it a common thing to have a male and female not take to each other? What are my options if they don't? I can't keep them in two different cages, although at first I can (I've got a big play pen that can act as a cage).

Why not talk to the breeder, see what they think? Almost guaranteed though, your fuzz will have to be recently ADV tested, and UTD on all shots if you can.

I'm really excited. Nancy has agreed to let me give one of her remaining sable point girls a home. I'll be picking her up at the latest next Saturday, or maybe sooner if I'm able. Just got laid off from work for 3 months due to a work shortage, so I'll have much more time to spend with my two girls.

That will be so fun if you end up with one of Finn's sisters ;D Is this girl from the Pointer x Zoey litter? That's the one Finn is from...

Ah I was wrong, she's just a sable. She's from the cream and Mr T litter. You're right that would have been pretty cool if they were from the same litter.
