so, in early December, I found someone on craigslist near me who bought a marshall ferret a few weeks old from a pet store (jfc), and who took them home for a few months. finding out the baby ferret was deaf, they decided they didn't want them anymore. so I contacted them, and it was settled that I'd take the baby home (today, as it happens). so I was finding names, looking at pictures of the baby, etc. but on the 25th, the person contacted me and said the baby ferret died. they never took them to a vet at all or anything. I just . . . I felt hollowed out and destroyed. I still feel pretty destroyed. I never got to see the baby or anything, but I feel like I've lost something important. It's probably silly to post this, but I still feel a great sense of loss. : (

it's not silly. it's sad to think that the lil ferret had a chance with you and never made it that far. I've lost 19 in 9 short years, and every one was devastating. Bless your heart for wanting to rescue an innocent creature in need.

So very sad. To all the little ferrets we wished we could have given a home DIP little one.

It's not silly. When a baby who you don't personally know dies, all the excitement and the life you imagined with them vanish in a blink of an eye. It's ok to mourn them. I'm so sorry you never got a chance to hold this fuzz ball. It's terrible what happened to this baby ferret.

As others have said- what you are feeling isn't silly at all. You did lose something- all the bright times that could/should have been

It isn't silly, that baby was yours in your heart. It's completely fine to mourn over it. I'm so sorry for your loss, my heart goes out to you. 😢

Not silly at all! I myself have tried to save a ferret from a sale group on Facebook, it all seemed to be lined up, until she ignored me for a few days, and ultimately gave it to a friend instead. I bawled like a baby. Little baby ferret will forever be in our hearts!
