1. Where did you first learn about natural diets for ferrets?
I was reading about nutrition for ferrets on the Internet and ran across it. I can't remember what
website it was on, but I became interested in it then.
2. Please describe the type of diet you would like assistance in switching your ferret(s) to. Be sure to include if you are interested in feeding whole prey (live or frozen-thawed) and if you are wanting to FULLY switch to a natural diet or PARTIALLY. If you are unsure what kind of diet you want to put your ferrets on, please express that and we can help you find the best type of natural diet for your ferret.
I would like to fully switch all my ferrets to a frankenprey diet. Not too sure yet about whole prey.
Definitely not live prey. Don't think I could stomach it.
3. Why are you interested in switching your ferrets to a natural diet?
I want them to be on a healthy diet without all the preservatives that is put into their kibble. I also
have a boy with food allergies and horrible bowel movements and I think he will benefit from this.
4. Do you understand that switching your ferret to a natural diet can be a lengthy, arduous process? Its not an overnight switch. It requires a commitment of several months at minimum. Your HF Mentor will be more then happy to assist you in switching your ferret(s) to a natural diet, but you need to be equally as committed. The switch takes time and effort every single day. It can also be extremely frustrating at times. If you aren't willing to tough out a potentially lengthy switching process, you have major life changes approaching (baby on the way, moving, starting school, getting married/divorced, etc), or limited time due to work, then it might be a better idea to wait on switching your ferret's diet until you have more time. Are you willing and realistically able to make the neccessary time commitment?
Yes, I am! I do work but I work for family so they are very lenient and I have very flexible hours.
5. How many ferrets do you currently have? What are their names? Ages? Genders? Do they have any health problems? Are they overweight? Underweight? How long have you had each ferret for?
I currently have six ferrets.
Mojo - 5 years old. Male; Possible adrenal. On antibiotics at the moment for UTI. Mojo is very thin.
He weighs 2 lbs. 1 oz. I have had Mojo since November of 2011.
Zoe - 4 years old. Female; Adrenal disease - has des implant. Zoe is a very small girl. Has never had
any health problems until the adrenal. She has always been a very timid girl and doesn't want to
be around anyone except mom and dad and my son. I have had my little Miss Zoe since November of
2012. Oh! She weighs 1 lb. 9 oz.
Roscoe - 3 years old. Male; Adrenal disease - has des implant. Roscoe has always had problems with his bowels. Three different vets have said they believe it is food allergies. He never acts sick and
always plays good and eats and drinks good. He is my biggest Marshall ferret at 2 lbs. 6 oz. I
have had Roscoe since November of 2013.
Toby - 3 years old. Male; No known health problems; When we first got him, he was wheezing and coughing and the vet thought he may have heartworms, but she doesn't think so now. Another vet doesn't think he has heartworms either. All ferrets are on Revolution except Toby. He takes Heartgard.
He is 2 lbs. 4 oz. I have had Toby since January of 2014.
Max - 6 months old. Male; Intact with des implant; No known health problems. 4 lbs. 5 oz. I have had Max since May of 2016.
Chloe - 6 months old. Female; Intact with des implant; No known health problems. 2 lbs. 13 oz. I have had Chloe since May of 2016.
6. What diet do you currently feed your ferrets? (Please include all treats, supplements, etc) Do they already eat some form of soup?
Mojo, Zoe, Roscoe, and Toby eat Totally Ferret Turkey Venison Lamb and Totally Ferret Active. For treats they get Wysong Dream Treats-Chicken
Max and Chloe eat Totally Ferret TVL and Active, Wysong Disgestive Support and Drs Foster & Smith Ferret food. They also get in the mornings only Stella & Chewys Duck Duck Goose rehydrated. I feed them Wysong Dream Treats Chicken and Rabbit.
7. Have you ever tried to switch your ferrets to a natural diet in the past? If yes, what happened?
No, I haven't.
8. What additional information about yourself or your ferrets would you like to share?
Me and my husband and my youngest son live there with the ferrets. My son is in college. I have no
other pets except ferrets. Roscoe and Zoe will be my biggest challenge on switching. They are VERY
picky eaters!
9. How often during the week do you have access to a computer?
All the time!
10. Please post a picture of each of your ferrets (if possible).
