Hello! I've just joined the boards to become more educated about ferrets and to talk with other ferrents.
I have two adopted ferrets around the ages of 2-4. I adopted both while I was living in South Korea, but have just moved back to the US with my pets.
Well, life has since thrown me another curveball and it looks like I will be heading back to South Korea to work again. I am trying to think through all of the options for my ferrets and I. I would really appreciate any advice, ideas, suggestions you all may have!
One of my ferrets has adrenal gland disease. She is responding wonderfully to her first Deslorelin implant and is symptom-free. Implants for adrenal gland disease are not available in South Korea.
Options: 1. Take ferrets back to South Korea Cons: stressful flight/travel (approx. 24 hours), week-long quarantine at airport, Deslorelin/Melatonin implants not available, need to then fly back to USA after a year/2 years
2. Find a long-term pet-sitter/caregiver in the USA Cons: would be a year away from my little ones, I find it hard to trust someone else to provide proper medical care, enrichment, etc.
3. Rehoming Cons: It would break my heart to give up on them
I am leaning towards trying to arrange some kind of long-term pet sitting/caregiving. I would be able to provide all food, cage, supplies as well as pay for medical care (vaccinations, implants, wellness checks, etc). I could also pay a monthly fee for the care - not sure what a fair amount would be. I'm just so scared to fly them back and forth; I was an absolute wreck the entire flight back to the USA!
Please comment any ideas/thoughts!

I think long term care would work. Where are you located so everyone knows?

Considering the adrenal issue and the need to re-implant every 6 months and the availability or lack thereof, it might indeed be best to try and arrange for a foster ferrant until you will be back home again. If both your ferrets were healthy or the availability to treat the adrenal was available I wouldn't suggest this. You're right there is a lot of stress on both of you but healthy your little ones would be better with you. Unfortunately, this isn't the case. Here at least they can be treated and they will be here waiting for you to come home again. ciao

Thanks for your input! I am in the Midwest (Chicago area) but willing to travel to find the right sitter.
