Hey, I'm pretty new to raw feeding ferrets. We used to feed our Bengal raw when he was younger (he stopped eating it) so I understand the benefits of doing so. I have a good idea of where to start, but I have a question, when I start with the soup and they finally start eating it off my finger, spoon and bowl in my lap, do I start putting it in their feeding area? What do I do with their kibble at these times, do I take it out 2-3 hrs before? Do I stop feeding it all together? I am going to sign up with the mentoring program but I am impatient and would like to start now. I would be weighing them weekly and journaling their progress. TIA

Best bet is to go to the diet transitions board, and start a thread there. Remove the kibble a couple hours before hand, and have the soup ready. Try finger feeding on your lap first and if they won't lick it off, dab some on the end of the nose and let them go. Do that over and over every 5-10 minutes until they DO lick it off your finger willingly. Once taking it with finger feeding move to a spoon and hand feed. From there to eating from the dish- just keep lowering the spoon to the dish as they are licking and move it aside. After they eat it from the dish okay move the dish to the floor, cage, where ever they will be eating.

Forgot- also put the kibble back in an hour or so after they go back into their cage, until they are eating from the dish
