I am opening a transition thread for my new fosters, since it will be easiest that way for me to track their progress. The girls arrived here two days ago and are still settling in. They were fed kibble (Vitakraft) only, with occasional egg and cooked meet for Gucci. Leyla eate just kibble. Lejla, sandy, 7 yrs old. She is castrated female. In december she was "diagnosed" with spleenic cancer and was "treated" for it with meloxycam. We did torough vet exam on tuesday (5 days ago), she has some US changes on her spleen, cysts on her kidneys, there are some changes on abdominal lymphnodes. She is mildly anemic, her ALT is high, BUN is borderline, other parameters are normal. Oh, and she is clearly adrenal (thined fur, itchy) - will get implant in a matter of two weeks. Her current weight is 540 g, she is very thin. Gucci, dark sable, 6 yrs old. Castrated female. She has implant for adrenal treatment (got it in december). Her blood valueas are all normal, no other changes. 853 g, a bit pear-shaped. Both are sneezing and have watery eyes - probably due to stress. Will see until tomorrow how it will be - if it will be worse/no changes, I will start them on antibiotics.

Yesterday I switched added some grain free cat kibble to their current Vitakraft kibble. They eate it with no problems.
Today each of them got a quiail egg (whole, no shell), eate with no problem.
In the evening I made a raw soup - I excpected much resistance and quite some spitting, gagging and fighting, but it went pretty smoothly. They didn't eate much, but didn't want to force them. First, we are still bonding (especially with Gucci), second I didn't want them to link their new food with bad experiences. So ... I did feed them with syringe, but they licked most of the food by themselves off of it. Lejla eate 12 g (0,42 oz.), gucci eate 8 g (0,28 oz.)
They have a bowl with kibble in their cage. I didn't leav any soup trough the night, since yesterday they left some of their supplements intact. We will just continue tomorrow morning.

Today Lejla eate 19g of soup and Gucci eate 20g. Gucci also improved a lot with her trusting since yesterday. And i can tell she will be/is one of those smart trouble making ferrets ...

This was their third raw meal (monday morning). Gucci eate on her own (eate about 20 g), Leia was still eating from the syringe, but there was no need to hold her (eate about 15 g). Now I let them soup overnight, Gucci is eating all by herself, even eats those pieces which are not properly blended, Leia is a bit pickier, but makes occasional lick on her own. When I feed her, she eats up to 25 g (0,9 oz) per feeding, which is great for her weight. They still have the kibble available all the time, I don't want to put it away yet, since they both dropped in their weight. Poops are ok, I added some salmon oil to their soupie yesterday. I will start Leia on oral melatonin today - at least something until she gets her des implant. Gucci has some better days and some worse - she is still scared (previous owner told me about her not being comfortable in new situations). There is improvement, but if i let her, she goes up in a living room and go sleeping under the couch. Once she is there, she won't come out on her own. Oh ... I don't think their previous names siuts them, so I allready changed Lejla to (princess) Leia. I am not really sure with Gucci, but she looks like Robin to me. But we will wait for few days.

Both girls are now eating meat soupie on their own. Together they eat approx. 150 g (5,3 oz) of soup per day. I still see them to sometimes eat kibble, but most of the time they eat soup. Poop is ok, they went trough detoxification stage - we had few days of smellier poops, but the form is ok. Gucci seems more relaxed (they are getting rescue remedy in their food, since they drink much less than they did), today she even played for the first time, but still there are days/parts of the day, when she is scared and want to be left alone.
