I have a young male ferret, Rascal, and I was wondering if it would be okay to put some fish in a small pool to allow him to fish for them.

It depends on the fish. Petstore fish may have been in water with certain something something, I cannot recall the name so another may pop in and explain that lol. I remember hearing something about Bait fish being a good idea. I don't do live fishing. I prefer to stick in frozen prawns in a large bowl of water on hot days. My guys still do the same fishing and its fun.

Go to a bait store and pick up 2 or 3 minnows for him Remember- if all he does is play with them, either you need to dispatch them, or you have some new pets

I curious about fish types to raw feed as well. Being that I live in South Florida there is quite an assortment! I've read that it makes them extra stinky? And if you do feed fish do you include the skin and bones? For example, in the situation that hakibeferret is demonstrating, would the shell intact be okay with the shrimp? Or the heads?
I'm working with the frankenprey model of feeding so I'm not so interested in feeding live fish (although others may be, and they too might need some knowledge in this area), but I would be interested in opinions about which fishes and seafoods in general are most appropriate for fuzzie-kind.
Thanks, and Best!

The prawns i used did not contain the shell. I think the shells would be a bit hard for them. Some types of fish contain really thin bones so I would be iffy with bones if you feed larger fish. I feed salmon fortnightly and remove any thin bones for my guys. All fish i buy has the skin, but no scales.

Shellfish I remove the shells. Other fish I just feed as is. I do tend to stick to smaller, fresh water varieties for the most part, though I did have on who adored wild cohoe salmon. The ONLY fish she would eat in fact Smelts were a favourite of Lucrezia's. She would literally make herself sick on them if she had the chance (giggle)

Thanks so much for the responses! I purchased some fresh shrimp (prawns) for myself and Kai to partake of tonight; and I'm so glad I checked this thread first because I did remove the tail and head, but I was about to serve her the shell, and that I shall not do now. I can't wait to see if she likes it. Also, it is good to know that freshwater fishies and seafood are better than the saltwater variety. I eat a lot of seafood myself, so I hope that I will be able to incorporate this form of nourishment into Kai's diet. Here goes - I'm just giving her one piece tonight along with some chicken neck, and we'll see how it goes. Thanks again!

One thing to keep in mind- if they REALLY enjoy the taste of something it is not uncommon for them to eat it so fast that it comes right back up again, little piggies
