Hooray for eating chunks!!!! (dance) About what size are the pieces? Yes it is normal for them to eat more at one time of the day vs. another. Some like more in the am, some like more in the pm, some like more in the afternoon. You can adjust how much they get at each time of the day as you discover their particulars. That poop does look a little on the soft side but good other wise. Try doing 3/4tsb egg shell powder in the soupie. Raw fed ferrets get different looking and funky poops often but they are usually a one and done type deal (sometimes 2 or 3). It is a concern when it lasts more then a couple of days or if there is more then 1 very loose poop.

yeah their poop has looked like that since we stopped the kibble altogether which was Sunday night its not completely loose but it is defiantly a lot looser then normal it still has shape to it though. and i would say the chunks are about the size of a quarter or a little bigger (they are chunks of gizzard) i was going to try and add slivers of chicken in the next batch i make over the weekend then it will be more chunky and less soupie so fingers crossed they eat it and like it!

If they are eating chunks of gizzard you should be able to give them chunks of chicken also. They might notice the difference in proteins and not eat them out of spite but if they are doing chunks with chewy gizzards they can do chunks of anything. Lol. For the poop you can def add a pinch of egg shell to each dish until you make a new batch to see if that helps and if it does then you can add 3/4tsp of egg shells when you make new batch. They are doing really well and shouldn't need the soup much longer. Once you get them eating chunks we can try some bones. Quail is a great starter and so is Cornish game hen. Chicken wings are fine but you may have to smash the tips up at first.

yeah they seem to like the gizzard fine but Binxie went and hid the chicken chunk in the litter pan today and was trying to eat it from there which was very gross haha. Minnie hasn't touched the chunks yet but i'll give her a little she tends to eat a lot more when i put her away for the night which is usually fairly late.

In the wild they would often keep their stash of food near their "bathroom" to hide the smell from other animals or they would just deficate on it. Mine will drag things to the littler box sometimes still but they put it in the front of the box that they don't use to do their business. How did the chunks go last night?

yeah Binxie just stuck the chunks in the litter pan and thats about it haha. I think im gonna cut them up smaller and see if that gets her to eat right away instead of hiding it and minnie hasnt gotten a chance at the chunks cuz binxie takes and hides them right away so ill try and feed them seperate tonight and give minnie a chance at it.
do they eat the chunks when they stash it or should i just pick it out and throw it away right away?

Sometimes they do and sometimes not. I would leave them until the next meal time to give them a chance.

alright i got binxie to eat a couple pieces of chicken by just handing it to her. Minnie would just lick it so i guess ill just keep mixing it in the soup and hopefully she starts eating it!

Binxie is such a trooper! Minnie may need some babying to help her along. Hand feeding goes a long way. You can try doing smaller pieces in the soup if she is not eating the chunks.

yeah that's what i thought i did cut them up smaller and mixed it in she hasn't touched it so i'm gonna hand feed her the chunks off a spoon with the soup. and binxie has already eaten the head of a mouse (I skipped the soup and just offered a mouse and she went at it before i actually found this forum) so i figured she would transition a lot quicker then Minnie would lol.

okay so they have been eating less and less they didnt finish their dinner last night and they didnt finish their breakfast either and they usually finish one or the other. Should they start eating less and less as it gets more chunky?

Sometimes they do eat less because there is less water and more meat. It fills them faster. Also it is turning spring so they may be entering their spring appetite. Their energy is still good?

Appetites fluctuate during a switch and during season changes, so it can be a little worrisome when they suddenly are eating less but that is why we ask for weekly picture and weight updates. This way if there is a problem we can catch it early. You can adjust the amount you give them after a few days of them leaving some. Have you been weighing how much they are leaving? Weighing it will help you better adjust when needed.
