Rikku is a he, lol. I cant get pinkies yet. Too expensive. I dont have the money right now. I dont really have a menu. I have just been giving them 8 bone in meals, 5 muscle meat meals and one organ meal. I havent been feeding them whole peices long enough to actually make a menu but I can make one.

It's a really good idea to set one up. That way, you've got something concrete to go by, to make sure you are giving enough of everything. I also find it handy, because mine's posted right next to my computer, so when I get up to do something, I can grab what I need from the freezer at the same time ;D

So here is the menu i came up with
Monday chicken beef
Tuesday game hen turkey
Wednesday chicken/mice pork
Thursday chicken egg
Friday chicken game hen
Saturday chicken heart
Sunday chicken kidney and liver
Risa will get mice twice a week in the future when I start breeding them. I also give them fish every once in a while, maybe twice a month, which I replace with another boneless meal (not heart or organs though). Does that look like a good menu?

The chicken, game hen and mice are the bone in meats. With the chicken they are get wings and thighs.

That's looking good! And they eat the bone from the thigh ok, or at least some of it?

You are aware that pinkies and juvenile mice have very little bone in value that you have to feed adult mice to get this...yes? A mouse or any other prey for that matter has only value as a "balanced" meal as an adult. There is nutritional value but I've noticed that quite a few who feed their own stock of mice often feed juveniles and pinkies because it's easier to on their colonies but consider it a balanced meal. It has nutritional value but it's not a totally balanced meal and should be kept in mind when creating your dietary plan. ciao

Thanks Heather. The mice that she gets now I get from a feed store as adults. When I start breeding I will keep that in mind and mostly/only feed adults.
Sherry, I havent actually given them whole pieces of chicken thigh yet. I was cutting them up and crushing the bone. I started with chicken wings since those are easier to eat. I will be giving them some chicken thigh today. Hopefully they eat it.

Well if they dont eat them its not a big deal if I have to cut them up. If I want to be lazy i can give them wings.

Alright- we'll just wait for Heather to pop back in, and we'll see about getting you graduated! Do you feel confident enough with what you are doing diet wise? And able to substitute one meat for another appropriately?

Just read your menu. I like it Congratulations. ] you've graduated and you're ready to walk this path alone, now. You have the foundation to help you feed your fuzzes in a more natural and healthy manner and something even more important you understand the concept too. Please remember that your learning never stops, and dietary needs change from ferret to ferret and throughout each their lives. I would also like you to be aware that though you now have the capability and the knowledge to create your little ones diets you are never alone and that your mentor (you need only pm) is always available to you. The list is also a very good resource and you should always be aware that it's available to answer any questions you may have either about diet or care. Good luck, in a few days either Sherry or I will lock down this thread but be aware that you can always look through it as a reference tool but you just will not be able to post to it. Your mentor will be in to congratulate you shortly ;D. ciao
