My mind is still spinning from last nights events. As I had explained in the guest board (because I lost my old account info. ) My ferret nation door popped out and fell onto my wonderful Nibnibs. Within 15 minutes he took his last breaths while I held and kissed him. While there is nothing I can do to forgive myself for this I can at least pass on a suggestion so this never happens to another ferret. You may have a hard time seeing in the picture but the zip tie is on the hinge side, it is under one of the bars on the door and on the side of the cage it is attached over the corresponding bar on the side. a simple .05 cent fix and I could have not accidentally killed my wonderful little boy.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss, but I think you're on the right track with zip ties. Zip ties are the most versatile and useful thing, perfect for preventing another tragedy for you.
I can't imagine the pain you're going through, but I feel that he must've been comforted, spending his last moments getting kisses and cuddles. You gave him a good life, and his memory will be preserved through you and his business. We're sending all our well wishes from Oregon. (sniff)

It is indeed an excellent idea. And I think I may do exactly this as well, since I HAVE popped my door off before.

Same,I'm implementing as well. Thank you so much for having the strength so soon to relay this information Libby. FN owner Ferrents owe you a deep debt of gratitude for the information. DIP Nibnibs, I'm so sorry for your loss.

I wanted to clarify that this fix wont keep them from popping off but it will keep the doors from falling onto a ferret. I figured I better add this because I don't want to give anyone a false sense of security. I also want to say thank you to everyone that is taking this added precaution. It doesn't take away from the tragedy of what happened but at least now I know that his death wasn't in vain.
Thank you all.

I've done it as well. I've knocked a door off more than once.

Additional: 6 inch ty-wraps are barely long enough so only a few clicks when you install them. Otherwise you can't open the door all the way.

Hmm, I used 11 inch ties. A bit of overkill I suppose but it meant the doors move easily and are secure. ciao

I'm so sorry to hear about your Nibnibs thats so sad. I just got my new FN yesterday and I'm putting ties on ASAP. Thank you so much for the warning because I honestly would never have guessed that the doors could do that.
