You will have a poop reaction to a shot that might frighten you. Have you seen the poop chart? holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/2469/poop-chartKeep in mind that this forum is world wide and different areas of the world have different opinions based on what happens in their part of the world.

I have seen the poop chart and will keep that in mind as well. I just didnt know if it would cause them sieze or something. I know everyone has their own opinion but i trust sherrys judgement and i do agree with the fact that i should let shelbys immune system heal completely. Thank you for your help!

Usually they start vomiting etc. Vet will put them on IV to keep hydrated. It is very rare though.

I have stopped worrying for a little bit and taking things in strides. I have been in deep thought about the vet i took shelby too. Though i didnt have a bad expierence i am not to sure this vet completely knows ferrets. Looking back i feel like i told her more than she taught me if that makes any sense. I looked at our ferret vet list and i saw that everyone highly recommended Dr. Anne Pierce. I looked her up and she actually changed practices so i am calling her to get prices and what they do there so hopefully i found a good vet to take care of my babies when i need her.

Sherry Nobi vac sounds correct. I spoke on the phone with the person at the front desk she was extremely knowledgable which i thought was impressive. She said Dr. Anne Pierce has had ferrets for years. She also has been practicing for 18 years and a lot of her ferret clients travel to see her because there arent any good vets around. Also a really good rescue in denver, colorado a couple hours from me uses them to vaccinate and treat all their rescues so they can adopt out. She also said they do anything and everything for their ferret clients. They do blood work and labs and have a good success rate when it comes to surgeries. They do implants i mean they do everything. So i will be making an appointment the first week of february to get Shelby and Nala their first set of distemper and see how well it goes. But i feel like this is going to be good.

My ferrets got the Recombitek CDV recently. This doesn't include a parvovirus vaccine, so it's worth checking with your vet if they can get it instead of the Novibac combo.

I am like Sherry. I do the distemper series (2 or three shots I think, I can't remember) when they are young and that is it. I recently had to use the Novabac Puppy shot for Athena since the purevac wasn't back in supply then. She was fine with it and had no reactions (but every ferret is different). I don't bother with rabies as mine don't really go outside or interact with other animals.

@morgan2247 A single antigen (meant to prevent only one disease) vaccine should be just as effective as a combination, with a possible overall less risk of a reaction since there should be less active ingredients in it.

So i have been emailing the new vet personally and she doesnt recommend vaccinating ferrets with those vaccinations. She said that the risks out weigh the benefits to her. The only one she recommends is the Merial rabies. This is the second vet i have been to that doesnt like using anything that wasnt the purevax?

Statistically, I'd be surprised if there were anywhere near as many documented cases of ferrets contracting rabies compared to canine distemper. A ferret doesn't even need to have direct contact with an infected animal to get canine distemper. I keep my ferrets inside and didn't consider there to be any significant risk until some friends (who have a dog) planned to move in. It was only then I decided I'd get my ferrets the CDV. Their risk of getting rabies is probably about 0% so I don't bother with that.
