We called our vet and she wants to keep calories going so wants us to voice his soupie AND cooked white rice! To bind him up some, not comfortable with the rice part. She also said could be salmonella since on raw- she is supportive of raw but said "I have to say it". Watch tonight and Che k in with her in the morning unless he doesn't eat tonight then call back. Thoughts?

One of mine had something similar about 3 times where she was fed quail , slept briefly, then rushed down the cage into the room projectile vomiting 4-5 times.
Looked slightly similar but not with the bile.
Poops were similar as well, the redness smushed with a napkin was more red/brown vs blood upon inspection.
We thought either it was a bad batch of quail, left out too long before portioning, or she had a reaction when she had something stuck in her throat so she freaked out.
I would do crushed egg shell to the next food along with the easiest food you have . Not sure if you are only at the soup stage or past that on anything. The calcium from the shell should help bind.
Make sure they drink a lot of fluids as that looks like a lot of water lost. Go get a syringe from Walgreens or similar if you need to and scruff and slowly put it through the side of her mouth. Slowly and make sure she drinks it. You don't want to force her to gag / drown by going straight back.
Also keep brushing to get any loose hairs along with bedding.

Thank you....we are at soupie stage and adding small chunks, trying wing tips etc. He did eat soupie by itself and seemed perfectly normal.....have another 1 oz out right now so will add some ground eggshell to it to help bind up. He is drinking and we even drew up a small tub and he played and drank, licked off us.

Just got this The vomit is definitely his meat soup. Is it left in the cage with him? If so he may have eaten too fast. Sometimes they get a hair or something stuck in the throat and panic when they start vomiting from the coughing, which in turn can trigger diarrhea. If he is behaving as per normal I would just keep an eye on him for now. And ignore the rice and salmonella comments The rice wouldn't "bind" him up anyway- it would just pass through looking pretty much as when it went in.

So tonight for dinner we had an entree of chicken soupie for both boys. Jax's soupie was a little thinner while Gomez's was much thicker almost like a stew not a soup. Jax had 3 ounces which he ate entirely on his own from the plate which for his 6th raw meal we felt was a HUGE accomplishment. Gomez devours his chicken stew and he munchies through the chicken slivers and chunks that are added. He also ate both ends of a wingtip !!! Huge success. ...heard the bones crunching in his jaws! Super proud ferrants moment. ? Gomez has been steadily given larger slivers and chunks. I will work on a menu tomorrow to commence thursday. For the week. Is that ok??? Jax has been having some really loose poops. I should think a result of detox. And his introduction to soupie. Gomez has typical raw poops. Sometimes he does have mucousy poops when he gets egg. I will also begin a more descriptive means of journaling. The method employees previously was just a quick method while we had no official mentor. Our concern right now is Jax's low weight-- compared to Gomez;he is skin and bones. Outer coat is very rough...again I'm sure due to the crap food he has been fed! Hope I hit some of the high points. Will post photos of tomorrow nights meals and then poop shots to follow....lol Night Jami I should always refresh the page before I post. I know that and yet I never do it. Jax's 3 ounces...was he full? You don't want to limit him. He's been basically starved and he needs as much as he wants. You can actually leave some in the cage for him all the time since he's eating from the plate now. Funky poops were addressed above. Weight will come. It will take a little time. His coat will also improve pretty quickly. Forget what I said about Gomez and the wingtip. If he ate it, that's fantastic! BUT, it also means he's learned to chew, so let's get him off the soup and onto solid food. Please don't think I was criticizing your journaling. I wasn't. In fact, I wish EVERY new switch would be so thorough. I just need you to do a little more now. Both boys are doing great! Give them smooches from me. Hey yes Jax ate 2 ounces and still seemed hungry so pulled another out and thawed over hot water and he ate that too. He then ate 2 ounces this morning and yes we leave him an ounce at least and he ate that. He is so funny he goes to the cat food bin and was trying to climb it, he smells it lol. No don't think your being critical of our jounraling...all is good

Ok good....no we did not nor would not give rice...lol He did not have it left in his condo...he ate this morning 2 ounces of thick soupie but today was changed to long thin strip of beef. Gina had us do this so he could start chewing more. He is at the small chunks stage and thick soupie. We have not had him throw up before nor have this kind of poop....runny ye, loose yes but not like this. Jax, the new boy since Saturday and he are still not in 1 condo yet.
