Just giving an update from this post:

Watson has been on pred this whole time and got his Des implant back in May (if i remember right). We weren't seeing any improvement still so our vet recommended we start changing things in the house to see if it was an allergy issue.
Removed all the scented oils in the house, changed our laundry detergent to perfume/dye free and put him back on Ferretone rather than Salmon Oil (when he had salmon oil he seemed to itch even more). Things still were not progressing in the right direction. A month ago our vet decided to try Revolution as a topical ointment to try to see if it would help. His second round of the medication was this last weekend and in the last month we can see his fur looking a bit healthier finally.
He never got down to any areas that were without hair, but you could see the line on his neck where he could not reach to lick and could tell a significant change in the thickness of his fur. The main area of his body that had thin hair is looking better, and he rarely has bad scratching fits like he used to have so often. It looks like we're moving in the right direction finally.
Unfortunately we're not sure if the Des was finally kicking in for him and that did the trick or if it was allergy related. We're going to do the final round of Revolution in a month (pretty sure that is the name) and see how he is doing at that time.
