1. Where did you first learn about natural diets for ferrets?
I learned about natural diets through groups on facebook and then continued researching on different websites. I am a new to the whole fuzzbutt experience and want to make sure I give them the best family/home possible.
2. Please describe the type of diet you would like assistance in switching your ferret(s) to. Be sure to include if you are interested in feeding whole prey (live or frozen-thawed) and if you are wanting to FULLY switch to a natural diet or PARTIALLY. If you are unsure what kind of diet you want to put your ferrets on, please express that and we can help you find the best type of natural diet for your ferret.
As I researched and saw other peoples comments about diet I saw many negative comments regarding the Marshalls brand of food. This is the food I have been feeding my babies since I brought them home. (The pet store give all their ferrets this brand) The more I read the more I see the benefits of switching to natural food. I would like to start out with only a partial natural diet and finally convert to a fully natural diet.
3. Why are you interested in switching your ferrets to a natural diet?
I want to give them the best possible lives and from what I have read and seen from other peoples experience switching to a natural diet is so much better for a ferrets health.
4. Do you understand that switching your ferret to a natural diet can be a lengthy, arduous process? Its not an overnight switch. It requires a commitment of several months at minimum. Your HF Mentor will be more then happy to assist you in switching your ferret(s) to a natural diet, but you need to be equally as committed. The switch takes time and effort every single day. It can also be extremely frustrating at times. If you aren't willing to tough out a potentially lengthy switching process, you have major life changes approaching (baby on the way, moving, starting school, getting married/divorced, etc), or limited time due to work, then it might be a better idea to wait on switching your ferret's diet until you have more time. Are you willing and realistically able to make the neccessary time commitment?
Animals are on the same level as humans so how I would treat my child (I have 1 son) is the same as I would treat my ferrets. (I also have 3 small dogs and a snake) My ferrets did not ask to become a part of my family I brought them into my life and just as I wanted my son and other animals. People may think this is absurd and that is fine because everyone has their own opinion. If switching to a natural diet is the answer for keeping my ferrets healthy then that is what I will do.
5. How many ferrets do you currently have? What are their names? Ages? Genders? Do they have any health problems? Are they overweight? Underweight? How long have you had each ferret for?
I have 2 ferrets, Stewart (4 months old) and Winston(5 months old), both boys. They both weigh 3 lbs. Is this a good weight? On other facebook forums some people have posted their ferrets weigh from 1-3 lbs so I am not sure if they are average weight. They have no health problems. I have had them for about 2 months.
6. What diet do you currently feed your ferrets? (Please include all treats, supplements, etc) Do they already eat some form of soup?
I give my ferrets Marshalls food brand. Stewart would eat anything if I allowed it. He likes to have ferretone and also gave him some raw chicken breast. Winston will not eat anything except the Marshalls food.
7. Have you ever tried to switch your ferrets to a natural diet in the past? If yes, what happened?
No
8. What additional information about yourself or your ferrets would you like to share?
I have had no experience with ferrets so everything they do is new to me. I am trying to litter train and Stewart seems to be doing well with it but Winston is almost adamant about not using it. ( He will go in front or next to the box) Is this simply the case because they are so young? Other than when they sleep in their cage they have full reign of the house and thankfully with my son being 4 the house needed very little proofing, they made sure to show me what areas needed to be fixed
9. How often during the week do you have access to a computer?
I have constant access to a computer.
10. Please post a picture of each of your ferrets (if possible).
11. Have you met the requirements for this program? Are you at least 18 years of age? Do you have your scale, a place to access meats, hearts, livers, etc?
Shoprite and Costco are my usual go to stores. I have a scale.
