1. Where did you first learn about natural diets for ferrets?
From this site ironically, I went here all the time before signing up =)
2. Please describe the type of diet you would like assistance in switching your ferret(s) to. Be sure to include if you are interested in feeding whole prey (live or frozen-thawed) and if you are wanting to FULLY switch to a natural diet or PARTIALLY. If you are unsure what kind of diet you want to put your ferrets on, please express that and we can help you find the best type of natural diet for your ferret.
Somewhat between partial and fully after Trition we’ve been…I won’t use the word but very VERY determined to get our other Ferwets into a very healthy lifestyle.
3. Why are you interested in switching your ferrets to a natural diet?
The history for Triton pretty much says it all we lost him to Insulinoma, and after learning its very common in ferrets and learning switching to a raw diet can greatly reduce it (even though there are other serious conditions hopefully removing one makes it a lot less worry some.) I have made it a serious concern to make sure they switch even if its just partial.
4. Do you understand that switching your ferret to a natural diet can be a lengthy, arduous process? Its not an overnight switch. It requires a commitment of several months at minimum. Your HF Mentor will be more then happy to assist you in switching your ferret(s) to a natural diet, but you need to be equally as committed. The switch takes time and effort every single day. It can also be extremely frustrating at times. If you aren't willing to tough out a potentially lengthy switching process, you have major life changes approaching (baby on the way, moving, starting school, getting married/divorced, etc), or limited time due to work, then it might be a better idea to wait on switching your ferret's diet until you have more time. Are you willing and realistically able to make the necessary time commitment?
We had a feeling so we found ways to make it where one of us will virtually ALWAYS be available our separate work schedules make it even easier to help as such. I Devan am fully committed to change them I want my ferrets to life as long and healthy life as possible (plus it just so happens raw diet where we live is far cheaper then kibble so bonus!)
5. How many ferrets do you currently have? What are their names? Ages? Genders? Do they have any health problems? Are they overweight? Underweight? How long have you had each ferret for?
We have 3 females and 1 male, the female ferrets are (age for order) Noa, Mia, and Rumi the male is Emil. Noa was a rescue so her age is fully unsure but we do know she is near 4 years old and quite a stubborn one. Mia is 1 year, 2 months, and 2 days old. Rumi (unfortunately I’m not home on my lunch at work ) is since she is a just sold kit I believe around 3 months old. Emil will be officially a year old on july 16.
6. What diet do you currently feed your ferrets? (Please include all treats, supplements, etc) Do they already eat some form of soup?
(Unfortunately) Marshalls kibble, every other day we give them pure salmon oil, we started last week giving egg yolk once a week, and when deemed necessary I believe its called bills duck soup.
7. Have you ever tried to switch your ferrets to a natural diet in the past? If yes, what happened?
We tried the raw soup meal from the forum no go for any of them…We tried breeding a little kibble into chicken thigh, chicken kidney, gizzard, and liver, with a little bit of blood…None ate it but Rumi. She aimed for the kibble however.
8. What additional information about yourself or your ferrets would you like to share?
Emil is getting checked up on Monday for what we assume is the flu (or its just a hairball but better safe then sorry!)
9. How often during the week do you have access to a computer?
We have no internet at home but we do have internet on our cellphones so we access pretty much every day or every other day. I also tend to access the site here during my lunch.
10. Please post a picture of each of your ferrets (if possible).
We are trying our best but I cannot put photos on work computers I will be getting a wifi device for our surface however VERY soon.
11. Have you met the requirements for this program? Are you at least 18 years of age? Do you have your scale, a place to access meats, hearts, livers, etc?
Yes we are both over 18 years of age, we have a pet scale for small animals that does in grams coming to our home as I write this, and if you mean store the meats and etc. yes and were to buy them yes =)
