unclejoe the show was a while ago and the only thing others said that had had ferrets have issues like these is they had them PTS. I didn't ask about specifics, so not sure if they were worse than Mako is or if they were just miserable but even they said he's so lively and seems happy. I've been up a few times during the night to check on him. Once I couldn't get anything out, another time I could only get a few drops and the third time I got quite a bit. So it's hit and miss. It smells quite foul, not ammonia smelling I don't think. Strange. I don't know if I'm paranoid or not be he feels quite hot too and his urine is coming out quite warm. Could just be my hands are cold or I'm imagining it. I do tend to over stress and make things out to be worse. I'm not sure how to take his temperature or even what it should be. Guess I need to learn that ASAP. Going to throw some clothes on and take him to the vets a bit early. It's just a drop off so no set time and I figured they can have a go at his bladder and check his temp for me before they start getting him ready for the operation. Please send him lots of luck, positive thoughts, prayers etc. I'm not religious but I will take anything right now.

I had a 'what the h*ll have I done' moment yesterday when I went to collect him. He's got a catheter coming out of his willy and then a great big, well slit might be the best word. I'm talking 1 1/2" ish from about 1/2 inch behind his penis and then upto his anus. It's got a tube running through it and all in all looks horrendous. He was quiet in the car on the way home, but kept pushing up against the bars of his carrier. Since the carrier was on my knee and he seemed pretty out of it I took the bars off and put my hand in. He curled up against my hand and went to sleep. I felt horrible for putting him through this and could have cried. He still seemed groggy and miserable when we got home so I went to make him some oxbow carnivore care while my OH watched him. As I walked into the room he must have smelt it, he couldn't get out of his carrier quick enough, he was full cage raging. After that he was his usual cheeky self but just sleepy. I left him with my OH again while I went to feed the rest of the animals. He seemed happy and settled in my OH's arms until he spotted me, every time he saw me he lifted his head up and started wiggling, as soon as I was gone he'd stop. Once he was back with me he was fast asleep. Such a mummy's boy. He's eaten loads, doesn't seem in pain (no teeth grinding, shivering, flinching when I clean him or change his bandages) just seems like a sleepy Mako. He spent yesterday after coming home in someones arms constantly and slept in his cat carrier last night in our room. I did set his playpen up for him but the vet said the more restricted he is the better, as they don't want the catheter getting pulled out. I checked on him every 2 hours and each time he was asleep. I nearly had a heart attack at one point, he had been sleeping the same way the for 6 hours so I was just poking my finger through the bars to make sure he was breathing or responsive. I put my finger through and he felt hard, I couldn't feel any breathing and I started to panic. I almost ripped the door off and the noise and movement of course woke him up, either that or me poking him in the head... See skulls tend to me hard and you should be worried if you can feel them breathing through the top of their heads... In the dark I couldn't see and he'd turned around. Poor ferret. After that he slept at the back of the carrier and woke up every time I went to check on him, like 'don't poke me again!'. Fed him some bits of rabbit this morning and nearly lost my bloody finger. His aim is shocking! He's having 5 minutes in his playpen while I eat breakfast (10.45 and I'm only just having breakfast...). He had a wander around, a dig trying to escape and then curled up in a blanket. I'll leave him until he wakes up then if it's nice enough outside I thought we could sit out and watch the squirrels and birds.

I was going to update last night after we got back from the vets but while we were there my OH had a bit of a funny turn and ended up pretty much collapsed on the floor. Our vet as always was beyond amazing and got him in a safe position and had the staff organised to help. We think it was just a bit of a dizzy spell brought on from low blood sugar, dehydration, heat and the vet had just done Mako's glands. But he's undergoing some tests for a lump in his neck. It seems to be a swollen lymph node (had an ultrasound and needle aspiration taken), but won't know for sure what's going on until tests come back. Needless to say, I forgot about the thread...
Mako however was as good as gold, he had his catheter removed and salmon oil and a firm hand was all that were needed to keep him still, but we don't think he has much sensation there anyway. He's had his bandaged changed a few times and is being so good about it (touch wood). It's almost like changing a hairy baby lol. He willy is healing up nicely, looks loads better than before the op. And his slit is healing nicely too. He's passing urine on his own, so I'm just having a gentle feel every few hours to make sure he is emptying. He doesn't know he's going though, same with passing stools, but that's no different from before. I'm putting sudocrem on his legs to prevent any soreness from the urine and so far so good.
The vet was so please (before my OH ended up on the floor anyway) with Mako and how bright, bubble and happy he was, and he's even more so today. The only issue I'm having is him eating, anything soupy is going down really well, he will eat loads, but apparently he's milking this for all it's worth and chewing rabbit ribs... no thanks. I've tried hand feeding him but he pulls until a bit comes off then goes and stashes it, even if it's just a tiny bit of meat. I'm not ready to play hard ball with him so going to give him some soupy stuff for supper if he hasn't eaten. No more carnivore care though, at least for a few days. I want him back on raw. After the weekend I'll go back to being mean and he can either eat his bone in meals or starve... that said it's mouse and chick tomorrow and that is one of their favourites, so hopefully he will eat that. I might put Bolin with him and very closely supervise too, might encourage him to eat.

They've never tried venison or salmon, might have to have a look after Mako's eating a bit better. I'm sure a new protein right now wont help much.
All three ferrets are off their food now, even Bolin... Doesn't matter what I feed Korra hardly eats, Bolin and Mako will only eat 'enough' if they can lap it up, so CC, eggs, soupie etc are all getting eaten but not as much or as quickly as normal. I'm letting Mako visit the other two during playtimes, supervised only of course as Bolin tried to groom his wound and Korra is being a bit OTT in grooming/dominating/playing I'm not sure really. Even during these playtimes there is little interest in food...

sounds to me as if all of them have noticed the special treatment and its a case of if he gets it we want it lol my guys are not gobbling it down as fast during the past two to three days ( apart from kits who are garbage disposal on legs lol ) I think its due to the heat its been pretty warm and humid here in the uk ( even with the downpour and thunder this afternoon its still warm ) they tend to go off there food when its warm preferring to laze around and eat at night or early hours of the morning when its cool try popping a little meat in just before bed ( try a bit ground beef its easy to get down on a saucer and see whats left in the morning) you wont know who has eaten it but you will know someone has lol give my little hells angel a kiss take care bye for now Bev

Little hells angel is doing well with eating today, Korra and Bolin seem better too this morning. They had the last portion of pigeon, might have to find some more. Yeah could be the heat and humidity. I tried ground beef towards the end of last week, it was a complete no go with the other two, but Mako ate his. I think they are probably just missing him, but Korra was so rough during playtime with him and Bolin is trying to clean up his wound that I can't leave them together.
Vet wasn't too please with Mako this afternoon, he's getting sores for the urine and dragging. I'm trying some different cream again and hoping it works better. They are healing up but then new ones are forming... none are really horrible looking or anything, just pink skin really. Don't want them getting worse. The vet reminded me that this was the last thing they could do, and to think about his quality of life if his sores don't go away. But he doesn't seem to feel them, if he does he's hiding it bloody well, sleeping through me cleaning them up and rubbing on cream. Wake up if I mess with his tail though... When I told my OH he point blank refused to think about having him PTS at this point, just said no and walked off. When I followed and ask him to explain he simply said Mako is far too happy, not showing signs of pain and still being his normal self. He's been a bit off food but not as much as Korra and Bolin, but drinking, playing, wrestling, cuddling as normal really. He said if Mako starts to give up or shows any signs of being in pain then fair enough, he will take him to the vets, but until then, "just no". Can't argue with that really. I need to video him greeting my OH when he comes home from work! So cute. I'm going to get my OH to call me when he's on his way home and get Mako in his chair, hoping my OH will be a good enough distraction and Mako can have some time of his wheels.

I ended up meeting my OH out and about yesterday so no video of that yet, but I got one of him playing hide and seek in the laundry bags. Only problem is I'm having issues uploading it. I'm going to try putting it up on youtube so if things go ary in this next post bare with me while I figure it out. Never uploaded to youtube before. Other option is putting it on facebook but I know not everyone is on there.

Here he is digging trying to get into the bag. I wanted him to walk so tried whistling him which he's supposed to come to. You can see him think about it each time and decide 'actually I'd rather not...'
Here I just gave up and moved the bag, he came running to go in the other one. After this video he was digging inside the bag, going from one bag to the other and digging some more. He's always been a big digger even before he injured his back. My other two dig at doors while he's always just dug randomly in places. Not great when we've mostly got carpet.
Also I know the carpet is horrible, it was here when we moved in and not enough pennies to replace it yet.
Let me know if you can't see it I might need to change the settings.
