I stayed up late to empty his bladder, well I was supposed to go to sleep and get up during the night but I couldn't sleep. So expressed him at 1.30 this morning, again as soon as I woke (so about 8) and just again. Still a bit of blood each time but it's definitely mixed with urine. After a few days of cage rest and no sudocrem his man parts look better. I was expressing his bladder with him vertical and after each session his penis would be so swollen. I noticed at the vets when she would do it with him on the table (so horizontal) he didn't seem to have as much swelling. I was blaming my technique but I think it's the position I have him in. Since I've been doing him horizontal there isn't as much swelling, some times there is none at all!
I still don't know if he was having a reaction to the sudocrem or if it was simply Bolin licking it off and making it sore. And the only way I could find out would be to put it on him again and keep him separated, but that seems a horrible method with potentially unpleasant results. He never reacted to it on his neck, but I can use certain products on areas that I can't use on others (like arms vrs legs, hands vs face etc). Maybe this is the same.

Girl, don't think about putting Mako down. Animals can live pretty well even if they are disabled. My chinchilla is starting to have epilepsia now and I did consider it, but when I see him make happy noises with his partner I just KNOW its not the right thing to do.
If you see Mako happy and still willing to live, I wouldn't put him down. When the animal gives up, you might as well let him go at that point...

I will admit I have thought about it lots, and every time something new crops up I wonder if that is going to be it. I think I'm still dealing with losing our dog. We did everything possible to help him but it wasn't enough. Since that I'm having issues with checking on the animals in case I find one of them dead or ill. Some days it comes out a bit strong especially since I'm in so much pain and not sleeping or doing anything with my time. But my vet is amazing, really supportive and she calms me down everytime I take one of them, reminds me it's not all doom and gloom, my animals are happy and I do all I can for them. And of course everyone here supporting me and encouraging me to continue. It's exactly what I need to read! Thank you!
You're 100% right, Mako is full of life and love. He's such a character and has such a cute face. I melt everytime I look at him and when he gives me cuddles and kisses I know it's all worth it.

No swelling this morning, no sores, no bleeding! I couldn't be happier
My OH and I were saying yesterday I really need to get out more, the highlight of my day is when I can get Mako to do a proper wee rather than just drips. The way I praise him you would think he just did the best trick ever, I'm not even sure it has anything to do with him...

Just got off the phone with the vet. She's heard back about Mako and it's either a tumor pressing on his nerves, a trauma and the nerves are dying off/dead or degenerative nerve/muscle/spine issue. Basically a bleak outlook as all will gradually get worse and he's likely to have to be on antibiotics for life due to the high risk of constant bladder infections and sores. Might just go back to bed for a bit ... Try to get it all out of my system and start fresh tomorrow. If anyone knows anyone who has dealt with something like this that we could just talk with, get some ideas etc I would be super grateful. I've been trying to do water therapy and massage and stuff with him, trying to build back up the muscles in his back legs just so his boney bits have some protection but I'm not sure what I'm doing.

Thanks Sherry. I'll try get in touch and see if there is anything else I could be doing.
Bev your post brought tears to my eyes. Thank you so much for all the kind words and support. It really does mean a lot to me to know that I'm doing to right thing. Mako is such a happy chap. He did start running from me while he was in the cage, knowing I was coming to give him antibiotics but I've started following with salmon oil and lots of cuddles and it's making a big difference. He's actually started sleeping on me. Normally he's to much of a fidget and I get a quick cuddle then he wants to play. We still have plenty of play sessions but we also have cuddles and kisses, just me and him. I do feel sorry for Korra, as Bolin has these special one to one cuddle sessions, but Korra doesn't do cuddling.
His urine is looking a better colour. He occasionally does an actual wee after I start him off, but if I don't 'remind' him he just leaks and his bladder is ENORMOUS after more than 8 hours. If I don't get him pretty empty before bed I get up and express his bladder during the night, but if it feel tiny and squishy then I leave him for at most 8 hours. Does mean our plan of having pets that we could potentially leave over night (feed/check late evening and back before lunch time) has gone out of the window though, although my OH hasn't clocked onto that just yet. He soon will, his fathers wedding is coming up next month.
I'm sat out in the garden with them in their NEW playpen, third time lucky right? Settled for a fabric one which I didn't think would last 2 minutes and it's standing up to them pretty well. They of course wanted out of the pen so I got their leads and we had a wonder around. Bad idea with Mako. The belly button looking part of his penis is sort of all stretched still and of course grass and mud have irritated it. He wasn't out for long, but will leave it off until his chair gets here and he's used to maneuvering it inside. Sure the neighbours will find a ferret in a wheelchair interesting.
Back in the playpen and he's happy and cuddled up with Bolin. He's really tolerance of his harness now so hopefully once his wheelchair arrives he will accept it quickly, learn how to control it and be wizzing around the garden again.

There has been a delay. The wonderful guy who made them was waiting for something else to put in the package for me so they have only just been sent today. They are coming from the states so at the earliest I would think late this week coming, latest could be a few weeks, maybe a month... Not sure, depends if they get delayed for any reason.

Mako's starting to 'clean' himself up. When ever he urinates and notices he starts licking himself. I'm not sure if drinking wee is such a good thing. It makes expressing his bladder more difficult and he's going it when he's leaking. I'm hoping it means he might have a bit more feeling or maybe he never had a complete lack of it in that area but I'm worried about him doing it. Especially since the vet has warned about frequent bladder infections and he recently had one (he's on baytril daily for the time being).
He's also turned getting out of the socks into an art. I need to try something else. Bev's idea of the stretchy wrist support stuff didn't work too well. I might be able to sew it to make it stay on a bit longer but I'm worried about just how tight it is around him. Might go back to socks. His chair is definitely in the post now, so hopefully be here within a couple of weeks. Until then playtime is very limited as he's making himself so sore. He's okay in the cage and playpen (both have similar floors). Might have to clear out the bathroom again and let him play in there. But he's a sod for going under the bidet and he struggles to get back out now he's not as agile.

What if you used horse leg wrap. I don't know what you'd normally call it where you are. It sticks to itself. I used to use it to keep my dog's socks on when he was licking his toes. Him looking at keeping himself clean is a bit of a bonus. That's a good thing. Often when they've no sensation it's don't feel it don't mind it. I would let him clean himself up after you express his bladder, rather than during ciao
