Hi, I have not been around in a long while, and can't seem to figure out the registration thing. I came by to see if anyone might have an explanation or suggestion or something. after work I came down to feed our three tonight to find Zeke had passed. He was playful this morning, no signs of any issues since they all had the flu ( back in feb) they came through that just fine. At that vet visit she noticed his spleen was slightly enlarged but she was not concerned, just said to watch for other signs. They did not have any bone yesterday or today that he could have choked on. Only thing I can think was yesterday he fell from the cage, landed on belly. Checked him over, he seemed fine, ran around played etc. could he have hurt something?? This morning when I fed them he was up and alert and trying to get outta the cage. They were alone about 8 hrs today, and he had to have passed several hrs ago. He was only 5/6 yrs old. We got him when he was 18m. I'm sorry if this is a little robotic or cold sounding, I am just in a hole and don't know what to think. I am wondering if there is a need to worry about the other two? Should we go to vet to try and get answers? No signs of any other illness, and I don't remember reading about anything like this. Any thoughts welcome sad and confused

I am sorry I should have spell checked it before posting, and now can not edit. I hope it makes sense.

If his spleen was enlarged and he fell on it, it probably ruptured and he bled out internally. I've seen it happen with humans.. I'm so sorry about your fuzzy.. :c You'll be in my thoughts

I'm sorry for the loss of wee Zeke but whenever a question arises from an unexplained death I have to ask that you consider getting a necropsy. This is an almost necessary consideration whenever you have other ferrets to consider. Yes, Zeke could very well have bled out from a ruptured spleen but you don't know. A necropsy would tell you if this indeed the case. I will light a travelling candle for your wee Zeke but truthfully a necropsy is the best solution to your answers ciao

And what other things should we be concerned about?

Yes, Michelle does do the necropsies herself. She can tell you the physical, if there is a bacterial or viral issue slides can be sent to Guelph. She can create these as well Bacterial or viral infection would be another concern. Just because it can infect the rest of your little ones ciao

DIP Zeke. Necropsy is the only way to know. He may have had a stroke, or any number of causes. Our Moe passed in his sleep at about the same age. He had adrenal, but was responding well to treatment. He was fine the day before.

I am so sorry for your sudden loss. You must be devastated. I would have an autopsy done too, just to have some kind of a closure.
