I've had my babies for just over a week now, and I've noticed that Noodle whines a LOT in his sleep. They sleep in the same room as me and its woken me up a few times. I've singled out that its him because Panda tends to play more when Noodle is sleeping, and he'll do it then. He seems fine when he wakes up but its a little alarming since he sounds like he's afraid or in pain... Has anyone else experienced this and is it something I have to worry about?

Ferrets have a number of vocalizations and kits often whimper, cry out and generally talk in their sleep....I've had a few rescues who scream and cry out. It's common. I know ferrets are generally classified as a quiet pet but whomever said they don't have much to say is dead wrong If Panda is playing while Noodle is trying to sleep, and this is disturbing Noodle then she's probably disturbing her (sorry). Kits do whine well just like small children...especially if they think you might rescue them ciao

Good to know. If Noodle is sleeping I generally close the cage and keep Panda out and play with her until she falls asleep in one of her hidey holes or curled up in my blankets. (I have to be super vigilant to prevent squished babies since my bed is on the ground and they like to curl up in it with me sometimes. I guess Noodle is just a talkative little baby!

I was just about to fall asleep and my poor Noodle started crying in her sleep.. I heard that they do that because they miss their bio mothers when they're this young. Ugh it breaks my heart to pieces. I'll reach into her cage and pet her and if it doesn't stop I'll hold her and let her sleep by me for a bit... It's such a sad little sound.

Dev does that sometimes, she's almost a year old now. I just give her love if I'm in the room with them and let her sleep on me, I think it's a win win for both of us since I get sleepy ferret cuddles! lol

One of the things you have to remember when dealing with baby ferrets from the farms, is they're badly traumatised by their experiences. They're taken away from mom and sibs the instant their eyes open (between 4 and 5 weeks). They're altered and mutilated (descented) and tossed into bins to be shipped all over the continent. The onest that survive are then bid on and shipped to holding areas where they're then shipped off to the various stores to be ogled, poked and sometimes kept in appalling conditions....all before the age where they should be taken away from mom and sibs in the first place. People then wonder why they can't litter box train them (mom teaches this to their babies...how to be clean), teach bite inhibition (both mom and sibs have a hand in this particular lesson) and how to play nicely and have manners (sibs teach this). I have little wonders at all why baby ferrets often have nightmares and cry and call out in their sleep ciao

^^ I second that. It's so sad that they can do that to the poor little babies, and I have no doubts as to why they cry so much
