I tried baby food meat last night which ingredients are just BEEF,BEEF BROTH.... so I figured it would work since the competition had like 10 or more ingredients....but they DID NOT want any...guess I will try reading the tips and tricks and blend up some real soupies for them.... so I guess I can put in ice cube tray immediately after I make a batch and am assuming this will keep till its gone if I freeze it???....rhe hard part is convincing them of it....do you have to take away the kibble and try when they generally are hungry???....I do have ferretvite which they all love so I could try that but I dont wanna over use that to get them to eat the soup....just havent had time to read yet...see you all later...thx for any/all advice

I've been very happy with using DES to treat Rolo's adrenal... We're lucky and there didn't seem to be any other underlying issues, and its basically like I got baby-rolo back with his energy levels as they are now. I also must say, I love the convenience of the implant too... there's no messing around just take him to the vet every 6months.
We had a slight hiccup where he was vomitting bile one evening, but that seemed to be a one-off thing and it hasn't happened since.

The DES will help an older ferret if they have adrenal, it's that simple. Adrenal symptoms can make a ferret feel terrible. Sleeping off the symptoms is often the ferrets method of coping. I've just implanted Atreyu with DES. I had been treating with Lupron when the DES wasn't available. Atreyu is considered to be an advanced stage adrenal, he is also 7/8 yrs old. I had the DES implanted this week. Even within a couple of days I've noticed an improved outlook on life, mostly his appetite, (as we had finally figured out what dosage he needed with the lupron for him to get a good quality of life). I just saw him tottering by with his best friend Dodger (also implanted but for preventative purposes) He's playing with Dodger. Now Dodger is outrunning and out playing him but he's doing a really good job at keeping up with him. He's back to being nosy and getting involved with playing with the toys. He's got an ugly bird and tossing it around as I'm typing this. Treating a senior can give them a new lease on life. I will treat if there is a possible chance of improvement. I've seen too often a ferret who's ferrant has given up on them, whom when treated has a new lease on life. It may only be for a few weeks, months or it may give them longer but their quality of life improves immensely. I feel that it's my priority as a ferrant to allow them this. ciao

does anyone know if the increase in energy holds true for older ferrets as well???.... my girl will be 8 this year ? I imagine it would - if the reason for the decrease in energy was caused by adrenal to begin with. Rolo is a 5yr old for comparison.

That sounds great heather!!!!... I hope Farah gets her playfulness, she sleep all the time only to wake up for eating and going to the bathroom...she gets her bg check tomarrow and hopefully the vet can tell if her urinary tract infection is back or not since her tummy is a little bloated and her peeing is a trail of little spurts...At first I figured it was maybe due to the swollen vulva from the adrenal but the swelling has gone down half and she still seems like she doesnt go very much...guess I will know tomarrow....also got her eating chicken baby food about a tablespoon a day not off kibble yet but tryibg and my male doesnt want anything to do with it....lol

Good luck....one thing you might also notice is that chronic issues, urinary tract infections, gastrointestinal issues, ulcers....these all go away once the adrenal is treated. Adrenal is a really horrible disease that takes a huge toll on their general health ciao

Got Farahs bg done yesterday.... Ut was like 42, which I assumed was low...the vet prescibed prednisone 2x daily for life, she said some people get it down to once a day.... Im hoping that will happen after I can get her on raw.... Also shes lost weight since the implant 2wks ago weighed 1.5 lbs now shes 1 lb... She does eat or at least like to lick the baby food, most of half tablespoon before shes done..and now I dont use the ferretvite so she is starting to like the chicken...next stop will be soupies this weekend... Wish me luck!!!! ?
